Kelly Services is seeking an **Accountant** for the state and local government in **Indianapolis, IN.**

Location: Indianapolis, IN 46204

Job Type: Temp, potential Temp-To-Hire

Length: 6 9 Months

Est. Start Date: 3/8/2021

Hours: 8am 5pm, M-F

Pay Rate: $18 - $21 per hour

**Purpose of Position/Summary:**

This position reports to the Chief Financial Officer. The incumbent of this position is responsible for verifying, analyzing, and processing payments made by the Auditor of State such as purchase order payments, claim vouchers and utility payments.

**Essential Duties/Responsibilities:**

+ Incumbent performs as assistant for CFO in Finance Division.

+ Responsible for reviewing each invoice for proper coding by location, department, and general ledger account number, project and funding source.

+ Responsible for reviewing the documentation submitted for payment for proper authorization.

+ Applies the knowledge of professional accounting principles, practices and techniques in planning, coordinating, analyzing and reporting a variety of data;

+ Provides assistance and guidance to financial and administrative personnel of other functions, Districts and Divisions within the Department and other state agencies;

+ Prepares correspondence as directed by the Chief Financial Officer;

+ Assists Departments, Divisions and vendors research payment information as needed;

+ Performs other duties as required.

**Job Requirements:**

+ Three (3) years work experience in accounting; auditing; or accredited college training in a related field.

+ Associate degree or higher in relevant area is preferred or at least two years of college education plus four years of experience; experience may be substituted 2:1 in lieu of degree.

+ General knowledge of Department functions, organization of the Department and basic rules and regulations required to complete standardized tasks.

+ Knowledge of Governmental Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).

+ Knowledge of procedures, guidelines and forms prescribed by the Auditors office.

+ Practical knowledge of office methods, bookkeeping procedures and bookkeeping and accounting terminology.

+ Specialized knowledge of or ability to quickly understand procedural and legislative controls over AP as they affect the Department, Auditor of State and other related State agencies.

+ Extensive knowledge of or ability to quickly understand State & Agency Travel policies & procedures and how to prepare the applicable forms necessary for employee travel & related expense reimbursement.

+ Ability to prepare routine correspondence.

+ Ability to apply mathematical and writing skills necessary to analyze, interpret and record data in order to reach logical conclusions and to prepare clear, concise and effective reports.

+ Ability to communicate efficiently and tactfully and gain the cooperation of Department personnel, vendors, and other State agencies.

+ Ability to work independently.

+ Basic knowledge of computer concepts of current computerized accounting system. Peoplesoft

+ Financials experience preferred.


+ Possibility for temp to hire. Likely to extend beyond 6 months.

+ Occasional work from home option after training. Private office likely onsite.

+ Reporting to and assisting CFO.

+ Ideal candidate would be familiar with PeopleSoft financials and knowledge of State & Agency travel policies and expense reimbursement.
