Were seeking an Accounting Clerk to work at our client, a national leader in the banking industry in Lewiston, ME. This is a remote opportunity. With us, its all about finding the job thats just right.

**Accounting Clerk- Lewiston, ME**

**Candidates will be working remote, but need to be in ME, NJ, FL, or SC**

**Payrate:** $18/hour

**Start Date** : ASAP

**Duration:** 6 Months with possible extension and conversion

**Shift:** Mon-Fri 8 am-5 pm (Some overtime may be required)

**Job Description/Duties:**

+ Performs complete array of clerical accounting-related activities

+ May lead activities of unit, assigning, prioritizing and monitoring work

+ Provides direction and answers questions as needed

+ Provides technical guidance and assists staff with most complex aspects of work as necessary

+ Participates in the development of overall department operating policies and procedures by communicating new or unique situations and solutions developed

+ Verifies that output resulting from work, such as checks generated based on journal entries, is accurate and correct

+ Researches and resolves outstanding transactions to ensure accounts are properly reconciled

+ Verifies specific transaction requirements have been met and that transactions conform to established company policies and procedures and external regulations and guidelines prior to processing

+ Researches various questions to resolve issues, such as discrepancies and rejected items, ensuring proper recording of transactions

+ Obtains information from a variety of sources, which may include creating and downloading system reports; checking various registers; contacting employees originating transactions to clarify information; and coordinating with internal department accounting, financial analysis and other staff

+ Investigates to understand intent of transactions and explains proper procedures as needed; Provides additional explanatory information as necessary

+ Coordinates with various outside agencies, including the IRS, state tax offices, companies, vendors, customers and others to resolve issues, answer questions and ensure proper processing

+ Receives reports and information and matches them to company transactions to ensure accuracy

+ Answers questions from employees, other departments, IRS, state tax offices, companies, vendors and others regarding transactions, proper procedures and other issues on an ongoing basis

+ Maintains in-depth knowledge of proper company policies and federal and state regulations applicable to assigned work

+ Maintains solid understanding of how assigned accounts and areas work as well as understanding of more detailed day-to-day activities


+ Solid reconciliation experience required, Strong excel and analytical skills.

+ 5+ years clerical accounting-related experience required

+ In-depth knowledge of clerical accounting procedures, including journal entries and reconciliations

+ Strong understanding of details of applicable regulatory guidelines, including state and federal tax and other requirements impacting day-to-day work

+ Attention to detail, accuracy and good organizational skills

+ Ability to coordinate a varied workload, meeting deadlines as required

+ Solid track record of solving accounting issues and problems

+ Excellent communication skills, including verbal phone skills and writing skills

+ Ability to lead and coordinate the work of others

+ PC skills, including solid knowledge of accounting systems, spreadsheet and word processing software
