**Salary: $24/hr**


**DESCRIPTION:**


This role is with a biotechnology company with advanced technologies to precisely target and direct a plants natural gene-editing processes. This approach accelerates natural plant breeding that has been a staple of farming for thousands of years and has resulted in a rapid, versatile, and low-cost way to produce sustainable industrial and agricultural products and improve human health by safely harnessing nature's own genetic diversity.


The company has a worldwide presence, with subsidiaries in Europe and North America and a state-of-the-art research and development center in San Diego. The company has a pipeline of traits for canola and rice and is developing crop platforms and a pipeline of trait products in other major global crops including soybean, corn, and wheat. The broad applicability of technologies is highlighted by the companys strain-advancement program, which develops sustainable products in microbial platforms for the food, flavor and fragrance, and personal care markets.


The company has an immediate opening for a Controlled Environment Operations Associate to help us to revolutionize plant breeding.


Role Responsibilities:

Perform routine duties associated with the culture of a high-quality crop. These duties include planting, transplanting, thinning, weeding, irrigating, sampling, scouting for insects and diseases, pollinating, harvesting, drying, seed processing and packaging, data input, and machinery maintenance.


Assist with daily tasks related to greenhouse nursery seed production.

Participate in the organization, inventorying, and repacking of seed to ensure long-term viability.

Collect relevant data in field or greenhouse environment to support project goals.


Knowledge, Experience, and Skills:

Knowledge of and demonstrated expertise in the following areas: plant propagation methods, plant nutrients, soil and growth media, automated irrigation systems, Conviron or Percival plant growth chambers


Familiarity with local greenhouse and/or horticultural supply vendors and procurement strategies.

Experience working with field row crops in a controlled environment facility (greenhouse or growth chamber) is a plus.


Managing inventory and scheduling


Core capabilities:


Previous field agronomy or greenhouse experience with crop-specific culture protocols preferred.

Familiarity with irrigation systems, fertilization, pest control, and field or greenhouse nursery production is a plus.


Ability to work independently as well as part of a team environment.

Good work ethic, good time management and organizational skills, accurate record keeping, and attention to details.

Analytical thinking and problem-solving skills.

Able to follow Standard Operating Procedures.


Working Conditions:


Ability to work under greenhouse and field conditions, including lifting, bending, tolerating high temperatures and humidity, and limited exposure to allergens for brief periods is required.


Must be able to lift 20-50 lbs. with or without accommodation.

Willing to travel to secondary greenhouse locations.



**Area of expertise desired:** The ideal candidate will have a degree in Agronomy, Horticulture Science, Plant Pathology, Plant Breeding, or other relevant scientific discipline.
