**POSITION SUMMARY:**




+ Under general supervision performs all responsibilities necessary to operate, troubleshoot, adjust, and maintain the ALS equipment.

+ Able to perform a variety of tasks needed to monitor and adjust the process to improve quality and / or throughput.

+ Assist with Preventative Maintenance.

+ Monitor equipment and process status for new products and new installations.

+ Able to perform routine cleaning and non-routine maintenance with adherence to all safety policies and procedures.

+ Adheres to environmental policy and procedures and supports department environmental objectives.

+ Adheres to policy and procedures to maintain compliant work environment with governing authorities (e.g. FDA, OSHA, MPs, ISO 9001, ISO14001).



**ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS / RESPONSIBILITIES:**




+ Responsible for operating, maintaining, and troubleshooting contact lens making equipment while adhering to all safety procedures

+ Works collaboratively with interns, technicians and engineers on advanced lens designs, software development, process development, lens manufacture & metrology and day-to-day operations

+ Runs an advanced contact lens making machine, including calibration artifact production and metrology

+ Runs Designs of Experiments to aid the development and characterization of optimum manufacturing and metrology conditions for prototype contact lens production

+ Monitors and adjusts the process to improve quality and / or throughout

+ Fabricates precision clinical quality contact lenses for clinical evaluation and process / product development

+ Processes and analyses data, generates reports, communicates experiment results to senior level technicians and / or engineers

+ Participates in troubleshooting, resolving equipment, systems, and process problems to prevent the occurrence of product and process non-conformities

+ Initiates ideas on process and equipment improvements.

+ Helps troubleshoot and debug a supervisory control and data acquisition system (SCADA) including solving machine faults and failures

+ Performs routine cleaning and clearing of equipment jams



**Safety & Compliance**




+ Be 100% compliant and timely with all pertinent health and safety initiatives

+ Safely handle chemicals necessary to operate equipment and follow chemical hygiene procedures

+ Helps manage laboratory chemical inventory, container labeling, general equipment maintenance and storage



**QUALIFICATIONS:**




+ A minimum of an associate degree in a technical discipline or **Recent graduate with a bachelors degree in a technical discipline**

+ 2+ years engineering experience in an automated, high precision production line environment

+ Advanced computational skills

+ Proven computer and software proficiency (personal computer, printer, copier, Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel)

+ Proven ability to quickly learn and navigate custom software programs

+ Ability to work un-supervised

+ Self-directed / self-motivated

+ Experience running Designs of Experiments

+ Solid technical troubleshooting / diagnosing / problem solving / logic skills

+ Excellent written and oral communication skills

+ Must be able to quickly and clearly articulate process / mechanical / electrical component issues

+ General knowledge and troubleshooting / repair skills in at least one of the following areas:

+ Electro-mechanical devices

+ Process improvement

+ Safety devices

+ Production start-up

+ Equipment process development

+ Mechanical devices controller

+ Current precision fabrication experience in an automated manufacturing environment

+ A good working knowledge of scientific metrology

+ Intellectually curious

+ Data analysis skills and experience

+ Flexibility to rotate between day and night shift.

+ Ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks.

+ General knowledge of equipment design, fabrication, assembly and qualification

+ Basic hand tools



Physical demands of the job include: stooping, crouching, walking, pulling, light lifting (up to 25 pounds), grasping, hearing, visual acuity, kneeling, reaching, pushing, talking, standing, fingering, and climbing. Inside environmental conditions: in an air-conditioned manufacturing environment.
