**Job Title: Analytical Chemist**

**Job description:**

As a contract analytical chemist, the individual will provide analysis of large and small molecule samples generated in the Center using a range of state of the art analytical instrumentation and software. The individual will optimize existing and develop new fit-for-purpose analytical methods for identification and/or quantification of unknown compounds. The analytical chemist will train colleagues on methods, hardware and data processing and will review analytical results generated by colleagues.

The individual will join a group of interactive scientists and therefore strong communication skills are a must.

Work requires care and precision with respect to manual tasks, pipetting skill, awareness of and compliance with biological and chemical laboratory hygiene, and familiarity with spreadsheet computer software. The successful candidate will have demonstrated outstanding inter-disciplinary problem solving and scientific analytical skills, with a strong interest in the pursuit of scientific discovery. In addition, the candidate should be able to maintain equipment, materials, and work areas to ensure they are clean, safe, and organized. The candidate would aim to deliver safe and compliant experimental operations and the development of an HSSE culture.


1. Serve as expert for analytical chemistry with a focus on chromatographic separations.
2. Ability to prioritize multiple demands and work successfully in a fast-paced environment and the courage to challenge and discuss analytical results.
3. Ability to follow SOP for operation and sample preparation procedures and subsequently train others on such methods.
**Education;**

M.S. (Analytical Chemistry, Chemistry, Biochemistry) and/or

B.S. (Analytical Chemistry, Chemistry, Biochemistry), 2 years of relevant experience

**Experience and Job Requirements:**

Hands on experience with chromatographic techniques is required.


+ Experience in industrial research and development
+ Experience developing and optimizing fit-for-purpose analytical methods for analysis of a wide range of analytes (small molecules, proteins, lubricants, fatty acids, fermentation products, anions, cations, and metals) in complex matrices using a wide variety of analytical instrumentation including LC-MS (QTOF and QQQ), UHPLC, GC-MS, IC-MS, and MIR.
+ Generating, recording, interpreting, and reporting high quality and accurate analytical chemistry data and information.
+ Openness to train others on a variety of instrumentation and methods.
+ Ability to communicate effectively with project team leaders to anticipate analytical needs and estimate resource requirements to develop required methodology and execute testing. Writing, optimizing, and validating SOPs and SOMs for a wide variety of analytical instrumentation and methods.
+ A high level of technical knowledge in a broad range of fields such as metabolomics, proteomics, process analytics, and traditional analytical techniques.
+ Execute experiments; interpretation of data from multiple sources
+ Must be motivated, possess good interpersonal skills, communicate well within and between teams and be able to work to tight deadlines.
+ Ability to prioritize responsibilities and work effectively in a multi-tasking and matrix environment.
+ Demonstrated commitment to safety in the work environment.

**Desirable Criteria:**


+ Experience with Agilent instrumentation: UHPLC, LC-MS (QQQ, QTOF), GC-MS equipment and software including OpenLab and MassHunter
+ Experience with Thermo instrumentation: IC-MS equipment and Chromeleon software.
