**Kelly Science has an immediate DIRECT HIRE opportunity for an Analytical Chemist in Lansing, IL**


**Salary: $60,000-$70,000**


**JOB SUMMARY:**


Technical position. Requires customer focused lab work as assigned by supervisor, including utilizing various analytical equipment including microscopic techniques to perform analysis of wet or painted parts to identify defects or off quality issues. Includes performing evaluations as support function to meet the needs of both internal and external customers as established by the supervisor. Occasional overtime is required.


**Essential Duties and Responsibilities** :


Use analytical lab equipment to identify and understand coating defects. Knowledgeable in the use of equipment such as Polarized Light Microscope, Stereo Zoom Microscope, Microtome, Microscopic FTIR, Gas Chromatograph and Particle Size Analyzer. Familiarity with the equipment includes functional knowledge, everyday use, and calibration.


Conducts lab experiments to generate evidence to support root cause conclusions when appropriate/directed by manager.


Communicates results and writes lab reports for internal customers when required. Able to explain technical results and methods to support results/conclusions.


Manages multiple projects and deadlines to meet department and customer needs. Changes priorities as instructed by manager.


Ability to successfully take pictures of defects on parts and cross sections of defects.


Prepares basic monthly reports and tracks projects as directed by managers.


Move waste from generation point to 90-day Storage Area


Properly close and label waste containers using


Other functions as required/assigned.


**Training:**


General Employee Training (Annual)


Hazardous Waste / RCRA Training (Annual)


DOT General Awareness Training (Every 3 years)


**QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:**


The individual must be able to perform each essential job duty and responsibility satisfactorily. The following requirements are representative of the knowledge, skills, and/or abilities needed to perform the job at a fully acceptable level.


**EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND/OR CERTIFICATION:**


College degree in chemistry or other science field with 2 years relevant experience preferred, or a minimum of 7 years relevant experience no college degree; college organic chemistry classes required.


**COMMUNICATION SKILLS:**


Must have excellent written and oral communication skills


Must have excellent computer skills including Microsoft Office (specifically Word and Excel)


Strong interpersonal skills


Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both in oral and written form to all levels of the organization.


Japanese language fluency preferred (but not required).


**OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:**


Capable of working on multiple projects, shifting priorities with minimal notification.


Ability to wear a respirator and lift 50 pounds.


Ability to work with initiators, monomers, isocyanates and other chemicals.


Keen attention to detail.


Experience working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment.


Strong work ethic, able to work well with minimal supervision.


Willing to work overtime as required and travel on rare occasion that it might be needed.
