**Summary**



This position is responsible for the leadership and execution of Company Research and Development initiatives in biochemical and analytical sciences, focused on making food grade products utilizing our food processing platform with filamentous fungi. The Analytical Senior Scientist/Scientist will be responsible for designing and executing experiments to meet the goals of the company.



**QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:**




+ Strong technical knowledge in analytical chemistry and food product development/ formulation

+ Excellent project management and organizational skills, attention to detail, and capacity to multitask efficiently

+ Experience in food industry flavor, fermentation, ingredients

+ Ability to work in a team and adapt to a dynamic work environment including changing priorities and quick turnaround projects

+ Ability to communicate effectively to present ideas, both in writing and orally, in an understandable, non-technical manner, with internal and external constituencies

+ Good record-keeping skills.

+ Ability to work a flexible schedule.



**Essential Duties and Responsibilities:**




+ Design, execute experiments and analyze a variety of samples to provide interpretive information on compounds and assay activities

+ Develop own techniques for the analysis of food products and chemicals using analytical techniques and instrumentation, such as gas and high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC, LC-MS, LC-MS-MS, etc.), ion chromatography, electro chromatography and spectroscopy (infrared and ultraviolet, amongst others)

+ Operate, maintain and troubleshoot analytical instruments

+ Conducts independent development, validation, checking and assessment of analytical methods

+ Trains colleagues in equipment and methods in accordance with qualification plan

+ Evaluate the nutrition value, color, flavor and texture of food

+ Ensure that food manufacturing processes conform with government, processing,
consumer and industry standards.

+ Interpret data and adhering to strict guidelines on documentation when recording data

+ Being aware of, and keeping up to date with, health and safety issues

+ Knowledge of food formulation and development, product and equipment validation, quality control and toxicology, a plus

+ Facilitates decision making and displays technical competence in the planning
and completion of assigned projects

+ Participates and supports QA team in yearly SQF certification including internal
audits and paperwork compliance

+ Demonstrates tactical thinking skills to drive projects and challenge conventional
wisdom



**EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:**



MS/PhD Chemistry, Food Science, equivalent technical qualifications 5 to 10 years experience in food industry
