We are currently seeking an Animal Biologist with the National Institutes of Health in Baltimore, MD.

This is a long-term contract position which offers:

**TASKS.** The contractor shall:

+ Perform rat behavioral phenotyping, including, but not limited to, watermaze, gait analysis, and operant tasks

+ Test, optimize and validate behavioral phenotyping equipment.

+ Assist in developing, validating and optimizing new behavioral tasks for young and aged _rats_ .

+ Train assigned staff in administration of behavioral and experimental procedures, as needed.

+ Implement archive mechanisms for repository of data and biological samples.

+ Implement interventions for healthy neurocognitive aging (e.g. TMS), as directed.

+ Support design-based quantitative morphometric studies using stereological methods.

+ Perform biological sample collection, preparation and storage.

+ Assist in the design of longitudinal, life span behavioral testing.

+ Work centrally in data collection, data analysis and archiving.

+ Train STARRRS and NAS personnel and collaborators to independently conduct and analyze rat phenotyping and other project protocols.

+ Actively participate in lab/unit/section meetings by presenting ongoing research and findings and presenting scientific papers.

+ Maintain an accurate research tracking system and database for research activities. Keep accurate records of daily experiments and results including research documentation.

**REQUIREMENTS.** The contractor must have:

+ B.S or B.A in _Neuroscience_ , Physiology, Biopsychology or related discipline: required

+ Extensive animal handling experience: required

+ Rodent brain/sample collection, preparation: highly desirable

+ Behavioral/operant programming experience: highly desirable

+ Publications demonstrating experience in behavioral _neuroscience_ : desirable

+ Small animal MRI brain image acquisition and processing: desirable .

+ Strong communications skills, both oral and written.

+ Excellent analytical, organizational and time management skills.
