**TASKS/SERVICES** . The contractor shall:




+ Handle, dissect and euthanize mice.

+ Provide rodent colony management support.

+ Anesthetize mice and perform physiologic measurements of hearing sensitivity.

+ Administer intraperitoneal anesthesia for evaluations of hearing and balance in mice with pre-, peri-, and post-procedure observations.

+ Perform physiologic measurements of hearing function such as the auditory brainstem response (ABR) and of balance function, such as the vestibular sensory evoked potential (VsEP).

+ Work with staff on mouse surgeries.

+ Perform microdissections of mouse inner ear.

+ Maintain accurate detailed records utilizing computer databases regarding colony, including animal breeding, health and housing areas.

+ Document all laboratory procedures, experiments and results; maintain and update laboratory notebooks and databases.

+ Communicate and collaborate with staff regarding colony and support duties.

+ Work with director on general laboratory maintenance.

+ Operate, calibrate, and troubleshoot laboratory equipment.

+ Prepare and maintain laboratory orders and order processing.

+ Assist investigators/trainees that use the Core facilities for data collection as needed.

+ Manage and comply with safety policies, procedures and MSDS guidelines, including those related to biohazards and radioactive substances.




**REQUIREMENTS** . The contractor must have:




+ Bachelors degree in Biological Sciences or other related discipline. Four (4) years of specialized experience plus a high school diploma is equivalent to a BA/BS degree.

+ Minimum of four (4) years of related experience.

+ Experience with animal (mouse) handling, care, and injections, and managing colonies.

+ Competency in technical skills with rodents; experience in handling and restraint of rodents.

+ Computer literacy in word processing and database record-keeping.

+ Experience with cochlear dissection of early post-natal and adult mice.

+ Ability to maintain accurate and detailed laboratory records.

+ Knowledge of proper laboratory disposal methods and safety procedures.

+ Strong communication skills, both oral and written.

+ Excellent interpersonal, analytical, organizational and time management skills.
