We are currently seeking a **Animal Biologist** to work onsite with the National Institutes of Health in **Bethesda, MD** .

This is a long-term contract position which offers:

TASKS. The contractor shall:

+ Manage transgenic mouse colonies including animal handling, breeding, and genotyping.

+ Perform molecular and genetic analysis; cloning, analysis of recombinant DNA and PCR.

+ Perform immuno-histochemical and in situ hybridization analysis of brain tissue sections.

+ Inventory laboratory supplies; prepare lists for ordering; maintain adequate stock of laboratory supplies.

+ Perform behavioral tests and training of mice prior to and during data collection.

+ Perform animal surgical procedures to support optical imaging, physiology experiments and viral injection.

+ Maintain laboratory notebook, including description of overall analysis plan for each experiment, laboratory methods/analysis plans and results of experiments.

+ Provide preliminary descriptive analysis of study materials and methods.

+ Prepare draft written description of the analysis procedures, findings, limitations and the proposal for follow-up experiments.

+ Coordinate with staff to analyze and interpret data; prepare summaries of laboratory findings.

REQUIREMENTS. The contractor must have:

+ Masters degree in Biological Sciences or other related discipline. Three (3) years of specialized experience plus a BA/BS degree is equivalent to a Masters degree.

+ Minimum of seven (7) years of laboratory experience in molecular Biology, Immunocytochemistry, or a related field.

+ Strong background and experience on mouse husbandry including genotyping.

+ Experience working with animals in a research setting, with experience in animal behavior, training and surgical procedures.

+ Familiarity with molecular, genetic, and anatomical techniques (immunohistochemistry and in situ), as well as behavioral methods.

+ Experience with Microsoft Office Suite (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

+ Strong communication skills, both oral and written.

+ Excellent interpersonal, analytical, organizational and time management skills.
