We are currently seeking a **Animal Biologist** to work onsite with the National Institutes of Health in **Bethesda, MD** .

This is a long-term contract position which offers:

TASKS. The contractor shall:

+ Establish and maintain a record of laboratory supply usage; order, ship and receive lab supplies; document the usage of general laboratory supplies; communicate with vendors and suppliers about orders.

+ Ensure lab safety by making sure that all chemicals, especially flammable chemicals, are properly stored, used and disposed.

+ Keep track of drug logs and make sure all drugs are properly logged and used within expiration dates; replace sharp containers when necessary.

+ Prepare animal protocol submission and inspection; keep track of drug logs, surgery logs, and water restriction logs.

+ Preform Immunohistochemistry

+ Maintain laboratory equipment; communicate with vendors for laboratory equipment service, repair and maintenance.

+ Prepare common lab reagents and pipetting.

+ Breeding transgenic mice and perform genotyping.

+ Behavioral training, i.e., training mice in virtual reality.

+ Assist lab members with checking the expression of fluorescent proteins in vivo using mouse imaging method.

+ Preform survival surgery by implanting a microprism into the mouse brain to image the medical entorhinal cortex in vivo; inject viruses to the medical entorhinal cortex and other brain areas.

+ Support other lab members experiments by helping to maintain transgenic mouse lines; performing pilot experiments and assisting other lab members with behavioral training.

REQUIREMENTS. The contractor must have:

+ Bachelors degree in Biological Sciences or other related discipline

+ Minimum of four (4) years of experience in Molecular Biology, Immunocytochemistry, or a related field.

+ Experience in performing surgical procedures with small animals and optical imaging.

+ Ability to problem solve and work independently.

+ Strong communications skills, both oral and written.

+ Excellent analytical, organizational and time management skills.
