We are currently seeking an **Animal Biologist** to work onsite with the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, MD.

This is a long-term contract position which offers:

TASKS. The contractor shall:

+ Provide experimental support including procedural assistance for laboratory members to include, but not limited to:

+ Blood draws

+ Splenectomy removal of lymph nodes

+ Other murine procedures

+ Design and perform laboratory experiments.

+ Work with staff on the management of the mouse colonies.

+ Maintain the laboratory, including:

+ Order supplies and maintaining inventories

+ Receive and maintain purchase receipts

+ Maintain equipment and equipment maintenance records

+ Maintain an animal science protocol.

+ Maintain an accurate, detailed research record.

+ Collect, analyze and interpret data and results; summarize and synthesize results.

+ Work with staff to summarizing and synthesizing of data in oral and written formats for presentations, abstracts and manuscripts by laboratory staff.

+ Attend and participate in meetings, including formal and informal laboratory and branch meetings, as allowed per policy.

REQUIREMENTS. The contractor must have:

+ Masters degree in Biological Sciences or other related discipline. Three (3) years of specialized experience plus a BA/BS degree is equivalent to a Masters degree.

+ Minimum of six (6) years of experience in a murine laboratory environment.

+ Research experience in immunology and/or molecular biology.

+ Expertise in the following techniques:

+ Mouse handling and procedures including intraperitoneal and intravenous injections, oral gavage, bioluminescence imaging and dissections.

+ Ability to learn new procedures and teach known procedures to others.

+ Knowledge of proper laboratory techniques, disposal methods, laboratory safety procedures and universal precautions.

+ Proficiency in the use of computers and computer programs, including expertise in Microsoft Office Suite (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

+ Strong communications skills, both oral and written.

+ Excellent analytical, organizational, interpersonal and time management skills.
