We are seeking an experienced individual to work as a Biologist at the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, MD.







This is a long-term contract position which offers:

TASKS/SERVICES. The contractor shall:



(1) Maintain and culture human and mouse cancer cell lines for _in vitro_ experiments.



(2) Prepare mouse and human tumor cells for _in vivo_ tumor implantations.



(3) Perform animal work, including monitoring and treatment of tumor-bearing mice, han-dling mice for injection of tumor cells and drug treatments, intraperitoneal drug injections and oral gavage, tail vein injections, subcutaneous saline injections, measurement of tu-mors, weight checks, tumor harvest and assessment of health status.



(4) Perform work on human specimens in support of ongoing clinical trials, including PBMC isolation, single cell disassociation of tumor tissue, rtPCR, PCR, western blots, immuno-histochemistry, immune fluorescence, RNA-in situ hybridization, and others.



(5) Maintain records of all experiments in laboratory notebook, including planning, execu-tion, outcome and evaluation of experiments performed.



(6) Order equipment and supplies in the NINDS ordering system, POTS



(7) Assist with development of orders for large laboratory equipment.



(8) Maintain stocks of available cancer cell lines in liquid nitrogen and update inventory.



(9) Maintain and catalog recombinant DNA stocks, plasmids and vectors, flow cytometry an-tibody stocks and tissue bio-specimens.



(10) Collaborate with staff to perform histology and histological labeling techniques including immunostaining



(11) Operate and troubleshoot laboratory equipment.



(12) Analyze data and prepare presentations for NIH, regional and national meetings.



(13) Prepare data for authorship of manuscripts.



(14) Attend laboratory meetings and present findings to staff.



(15) Collaborate with staff on general laboratory maintenance, including clean water baths, prepare and keep tissue culture media stocked, check incubator temperature and CO2 levels; maintain tissue culture equipment and supplies.





REQUIREMENTS. The contractor must have:



(1) Masters degree in Biology or other related discipline. Three (3) years of specialized experience plus a Bachelors degree is equivalent to a Masters degree.



(2) Minimum of eight (8) years of experience in Molecular Biology or a related field.



(3) Background in molecular techniques, demonstrate ability to perform experiments independently and with minimal supervision.



(4) Ability to rapidly acquire knowledge in new fields and to understand and, if necessary, adapt published procedures to own needs.



(5) Ability to evaluate own results and those of others, including those in published literature.



(6) Proficiency in the operation of computer and general data acquisition programs.



(7) Excellent time management skills required.



(8) Strong written and oral communication skills.
