**Job Title: Animal Care Lab Tech**





**Shift: Tuesday Saturday, 10:30 AM 7 PM**





**Pay: $14.27**





**Position Summary** :



Performs variety of laboratory tasks related to animal care, animal facility management, antibody/antigen production and other areas in support of new product development and/or product support of existing products.





PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:



Specializes in one or more of the following areas:



Animal Care



* Provides daily care of research animals (mice).



* Cleans cages, equipment and facility.



* Monitors wellbeing of animals.



* Ensures all documents are filled out according to Standard Operating Procedures and reflect current manufacturing processes and label claims.



* Tracks supplies and notifies supervisor of needed orders.





Animal Facility Management



* Supervises daily activities of junior staff within the animal facility.



* Trains new employees for proper animal handling techniques; provides coaching and guidance to Animal Technician staff as needed.



* Responsible for coordinating with area manager on operational and technical duties.



* Manages and maintains breeding colony for use in ascites production.



* Reviews all documents completed by junior level staff to ensure that they are filled out according to Standard Operating Procedures and reflect current manufacturing processes and label claims.



* Coordinates biohazard waste disposal as needed.



* Serves as a point of contact for animal facility inspections (i.e., regulatory agencies).



* Orders supplies and serves as point of contact for partnerships/external vendors as needed.





Antibody/Antigen Production



* Responsible for both research- and large-scale antibody/ antigen production.



* Schedule and perform cell line expansion in support of antibody/antigen production to meet both R&D and production needs.



* Prepares working and production cell stocks as needed; tests cell stocks (sterility, antibody levels, viral titer) to ensure acceptability for use; assists with 9CFR testing of cell stocks (bacterial and fungal testing, sample prep for mycoplasma and karyology testing, isotyping, IFA, slide preparation and staining).



* May assist with scheduling of antibody/antigen production to meet OPS and R&D needs.



* Collects data; track and analyze data as needed; may assist with creation of reports.



* Maintains communication between R&D projects and OPS production schedule.



Perform other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: EDUCATION:



* Work performed may be more routine and less complex.



Exercises judgment in evaluating and reporting results in consultation with senior staff and others.



Performs equipment maintenance activities.



Knowledge of lab equipment and procedures.



Awareness of quality control and calibration.



Developing knowledge of multiple specialties.



Works under close to moderate supervision with limited latitude for independent judgment. Consult with senior peers on non-complex tasks to learn through experience.



Normally receives general instructions on routine work, detailed instructions on new assignments.



Basic skills and proficiency (may sacrifice speed for accuracy until proficiency grows).



Applies job skills and lab policies and procedures to complete a variety of tasks.



Works on lab technician tasks that are semi-routine in nature where ability to recognize deviation from accepted practice is required.



May be cross trained and support R&D and/or production responsibilities.



* For animal care-related responsibilities (if these are assigned), provides daily care of research animals (mice).



Cleans cages, equipment and facility.



Monitors wellbeing of animals.



Responsible for coordinating with more senior Animal Facility staff and area manager on operational and technical duties.



Ensures all documents are filled out according to Standard Operating Procedures and reflect current manufacturing processes and label claims.



Certification as a Veterinary Technician (RVT, LVT, CVT Registered, Licensed or Certified through American Veterinary Medical Association accredited program-AVMA) or Assistant Laboratory Animal Technician (ALAT Certified through American Association for Laboratory Animal Science-AALAS) or military equivalent a plus.





.EXPERIENCE:



Entry-level up to 5+ years related experience





REQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES:



* Must be observant and willing to work with small animals (mice) if animal-related responsibilities are assigned.



* General science background helpful.



* Good aseptic technique required.



* Ability to complete formal documentation; ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, material safety data sheets, operating and maintenance instructions and technical procedures.



* Attention to detail.



* Organized with ability to multi-task in a fast paced environment.



* Ability to work independently and as part of a team.



* Communication skills, both verbal and written.



* Must be able to interact confidently with regulatory agencies.



* Positive, can-do attitude.



* Supervisory skills, if a lead position.



* Personal computer skills, including strong typing ability and proficient use of Microsoft Office.



* Ability to speak effectively and respond to questions.



* Ability to use discretionary judgment.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:



* Standing and sitting for long periods of time.



* Repetitive use of hand, fingers and arms to handle objects and/or small animals (mice).



* Extend and reach with hands and arms; use hands, fingers and arms to handle, squeeze, twist and manipulate objects, controls and tools.



* Regularly required to climb, balance, bend, stoop, kneel or crouch.



* Must be able to lift, move and carry up to 25 pounds frequently; must occasionally lift, move and carry up to 50 pounds and to push/pull pallet jacks and carts.



* Specific vision abilities required include close vision, color vision, depth perception and the ability to focus.



* Hearing acuity sufficient to effectively communicate with regulatory agencies and employees via telephone and in person.



* Ability to communicate using e-mail and in person.



* Fluency in the English language.



* Weekend hours may be required.
