**Job Description**


A Seattle-based commercial-stage biopharmaceutical company is looking for an Animal Technician.


Provide humane care and routine husbandry for the Company's research animals including providing health checks, changing cages and providing adequate food and water.


Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

Animal Technician I, II, and III:


- Monitoring and recording animal health on a daily basis

- Feeding and providing water to mice, rats, and other species which may be used

- Transferring animals between cages, if needed

- Monitoring and recording room environment to include keeping records of the environmental conditions (i.e. temperature and humidity), performing janitorial tasks such as sweeping and mopping, and ensuring adequate supplies in the room.

- Complying with standard operating procedures (SOP-s) and policies on animal care and facility sanitation.

- Assist in resolving issues in animal care to maintain standards

- Performing other duties as assigned

Experience and Education Required:


- Must have a High School Diploma or equivalent; a college education is desirable

- At least one year of animal husbandry experience is highly desirable

- Must have the ability to read, write, and follow instructions written in English precisely

- Certification requirements:

o Animal Technician 1: ALAT (Assistant Laboratory Animal Technician) certification desirable

- A high familiarity with mechanical cage washing equipment and autoclaves

- Knowledge of and demonstrated proper use of personal protective equipment is essential.

- An Animal Technician 1 would need to be proficient in Word and Outlook


**Requirements**


Other Special Requirements:


- No personal ownership of rodents or other animals that eat rodents as a part of their diet is allowed, to prevent contamination with our rodents.

- You will be required to participate in the weekend and holiday animal care rotation schedule

- Must participate in the occupational health program for animal care workers.

- Must have a strong work ethic and ability to function as part of a team dynamic

- The ability to work collaboratively


Physical Demands Required:


- Position requires physical activity including bending, reaching, pushing, pulling, or lifting up to 40 lbs.

- Extended periods of time standing

- Must be able to don and doff Personal Protective Equipment repeatedly during the day, which requires standing on one leg while placing on shoe covers

- You may be required to work with, take specific precautions against and/or be immunized against potentially hazardous agents, including chemical hazards and BSL-2 biohazards.
