The Department of Molecular, Cellular, and Biomedical Sciences (MCBS) is an energetic and growing department with seven new tenure-track faculty hires in the past five years. We also interact with three Departments within the College of Life Sciences and Agriculture (COLSA), and the state's Agricultural Experiment Station.

MCBS offers degrees at the Bachelor's, Master's and Doctoral levels. Faculty additionally participate in university-wide interdisciplinary doctoral programs. Undergraduate programs focus on preparing students for careers in the life sciences, including advanced training in graduate or professional programs. Summary of Position
The Department of Molecular, Cellular, and Biomedical Sciences (MCBS), College of Life Sciences and Agriculture (COLSA), at the University of New Hampshire (UNH) invites applications for a full-time (9-month) tenure-track Assistant Professor of Virology starting Fall 2020.

The successful applicant will be expected to develop a high-impact, externally-funded research program in virology, with a focus on any of the following areas: epidemiology, pathogenesis, ecology, evolution, oncology, and/or host-pathogen interactions. The successful applicant will also provide vibrant, high-quality instruction to the undergraduate and graduate programs in MCBS.

Virology is undergoing a transformation bolstered by powerful new technologies, including innovative computational techniques, data analytics and integrative biology that address fundamental scientific questions. It is our vision that UNH will build on existing strengths in microbial ecology, evolution, genomics, oncology, and wildlife disease, while advancing our understanding of these and other disciplines as they relate to basic biomedical sciences.

The successful candidate will work to (i) establish a nationally recognized, externally-funded and impactful research program; (ii) mentor undergraduates, graduate student and postdoctoral researchers; (iii) contribute to undergraduate and graduate teaching; and (iv) provide meaningful service at departmental, college, university and national levels.

Opportunities also exist to establish productive interactions with any of several centers for excellence at the University of New Hampshire including the Center of Integrated Biomedical and Bioengineering Research (, the Hubbard Center for Genome Studies (, the Research Computing Center (, and the School of Marine Science and Ocean Engineering (

Graduate student training opportunities are provided through affiliation with any of the MCBS administered graduate programs including Microbiology, Genetics, Biochemistry, and Molecular and Evolutionary Systems Biology. In addition, MCBS, COLSA, UNH and UNH's NIH- sponsored COBRE Center of Biomedical Research Excellence in Integrated Biomedical and Bioengineering Research are each strongly and proactively committed to career development.

Acceptable Minimum Qualifications
Candidates must hold a Ph.D. in any field related to virology, and the demonstrated potential to develop and lead an externally funded research program. Postdoctoral experience is required. Candidates must also be committed to undergraduate and graduate education. The ability to collaborate effectively with a broad range of researchers is important.
