General Position Summary/Purpose:

The Associate Scientist will be a member of the Research Biology team within the Discovery department responsible for providing strong technical expertise and implementation to support drug discovery in hematologic malignancies and solid tumors. The Associate Scientist will be responsible for independently executing tasks that require mammalian cell culture, various biochemical and molecular biology-based assays. The successful candidate should be proficient in cell culture and standard biochemistry techniques and clearly communicate the scientific rationale, methodology and results.


Key Accountabilities/Core Job Responsibilities:

The candidate is expected to take over and maintain multiple suspension and adherent human cancer cell lines and perform cell culture with proper aseptic technique, expanding and freezing various cell lines to meet the fast-paced and changing demands of the project team.

This position also requires strong demonstratable experience in assays including cell lysate preparation, protein purification, lentiviral production and transduction, CRISPR/Cas9, western blot, Simple Western (Wes/Jess), CTG and ELISA.

Work with manager to improve assay protocols and take an active role in development, optimization, and validation of new assays. Utilize technical expertise and available information to troubleshoot and resolve key assay hurdles when encountered.

Apply basic cell and molecular biology techniques to identify and evaluate cellular efficacy and selectivity endpoints. Accurately document, critically analyze/interpret data and communicate the results promptly.

Perform tasks with diligent attention to detail and high level of accuracy. Prioritize tasks and contribute to a highly motivated and productive research team with a sense of urgency and desire to meet project timelines.


Qualifications:

BS with 7 or more years of relevant laboratory experience or MS with 3 or more years of relevant laboratory experience either in academic or industrial settings. Strong expertise in cell culture and high-throughput screening is desired.

Solid and reliable technical skills and attention to detail in order to flawlessly execute experiments as well as ability to troubleshoot.

Strong organizational skills to thrive in a fast-paced matrixed working environment where several projects need to be moved forward simultaneously.


Experience:

This position is centered extensively on mammalian cell culture of multiple suspension and adherent cancer cell lines. Flawless and demonstrated aseptic technique is a must. BSL-2 experience and work producing and using lentivirus is a big plus.

Experience in cellular biology techniques for manipulation of gene expression by CRISPR/Cas9 is essential.

Expertise in protein chemistry including protein purification and characterization by various biotechniques such as Protein Simple WES, western blotting, ELISA and in vitro biochemical assays is essential.

Familiarity with the drug discovery workflow and drug screening experience in high-throughput (HTS) assay format (96wp, 384wp) (ELISA, AlphaLISA, CTG, TR-FRET) using cell-based systems is highly desired.

Knowledge in multi-color flow cytometry is a plus but not required.

Basic knowledge on biological data analysis tools (GraphPad Prism, FACS DIVA software, FlowJo) and applications such as MS Excel and MS PowerPoint.
