**Kelly Engineering** is currently recruiting for a **(Direct Hire) (Automation Manager)** job located in **Morganton, NC** . This position is responsible for the research, design, development, testing, and implementation of systems for the automation of industrial tasks. The position is jointly responsible for the ongoing performance and overall effectiveness of automated equipment and processes across multiple departments and product lines. The position also provides supervision, direction, and guidance to automation engineers and technicians.


**Essential Functions:**


+ Supports a safe work environment by following safety policies and procedures

+ Supports a quality work environment by following quality policies and procedures

+ Creates mechanical design documents for parts, assemblies, or finished products

+ Maintains technical project files

+ Implements or test design solutions

+ Creates mechanical models and tolerance analyses to simulate mechatronic design concepts

+ Conducts studies to determine the feasibility, costs, or performance benefits of new mechatronic equipment

+ Publish engineering reports documenting design details or qualification test results

+ Research, select, or apply sensors, communication technologies, or control devices for motion control, position sensing, pressure sensing, or electronic communication

+ Identify and select materials appropriate for mechatronic system designs

+ Apply mechatronic or automated solutions to the transfer of materials, components, or finished goods

+ Designs advanced precision equipment for accurate or controlled applications

+ Upgrades the design of existing devices by adding mechatronic elements

+ Analyzes existing development or manufacturing procedures and suggest improvements

+ Provides consultation or training on topics such as mechatronics or automated control

+ Oversees the work of contractors in accordance with project requirements

+ Design, develop, or implement control circuits or algorithms for electromechanical or pneumatic devices or systems

+ Designs advanced electronic control systems for mechanical systems

+ Responsible for managing department expense and capital budget development and execution

+ Utilizes understanding of the molded/stamped components, tool design and selection to make recommendations for design and improvements

+ Leads Staff in the creation and maintenance of procedures and instructions in an ISO environment

+ Assists with the development of department direction and plans to carry out the vision and overall Operations plans. Actively participate in strategic and tactical planning

+ Evaluates, recommend, and implement process improvements for improved efficiency and product quality

+ Provides technical assistance and training to production work teams

+ Performs supervisory duties including, but not limited to, hiring, training, assigning work, evaluating, and rewarding performance

+ Encourages open employee communication; provides positive feedback and professional development opportunities to employees, promoting optimal productivity

+ Practices a participative management style that advocates teamwork


**Education & Experience:**


+ Bachelors degree in Engineering required (Mechanical Engineering preferred), Masters degree a plus

+ Minimum 6 years experience required in automation engineering

+ Minimum 1 year supervisory experience


**Skills & Abilities:**


+ Knowledge of tool room equipment, product development practices, preventive maintenance practices and automation equipment

+ Knowledge of automated assembly and processes for high volume manufacturing, component fabrication processes including injection molding and metal stamping, various types of soldering, and fastening

+ Ability to understand and communicate complex mechanical concepts

+ Familiarity with common machining practices

+ Excellent oral and written communication skills

+ Ability to effectively present information to top management


**Travel:**


+ Up to 10% may be required
