Job Description:



Following approved Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), Biobank Technicians take receipt of samples, input information into the tracking system and place the samples into storage. On receipt of approved requests, Biobank Technicians then retrieve specific samples from storage and dispatch to scientists on site and to collaborators off-site. Some samples will be returned from the scientists after analysis and must be logged back into the system to be used again at a later date, whilst others are used up and must be updated as such in the system.





The role is primarily lab-based, focusing on the receipt and supply of human biological sample to support research studies globally. The biobanks work in accordance with SHE, GxP and GLS requirements.





Full training in SOPs and processes will be provided. The successful candidate will be highly organized, motivated and capable of working independently to maintain compliant operations at the local biobank whilst additionally contributing to the logging in of a large legacy sample set from an analytical partner laboratory.





Main Tasks:




+ Receive and distribute Human Biological Samples (HBS) in accordance with current priorities (set under the direction of the AZ UK biobank)

+ Ensure that all samples are dealt with in a manner that is compliant with internal standards and relevant regulations (including Good Clinical Practice) by following all relevant local and global SOPs

+ Rapidly address customer queries with regards to shipments and orders, involving data mining and retrieval of information from the tracking system

+ Act in accordance with all AstraZeneca policies: personnel, SHE, Bioethics etc

+ Basic lab duties including general lab house-keeping







Skills, knowledge & competencies



The successful candidate will:




+ Be educated to bachelors degree level in a scientific discipline

+ Have experience of working in a professional laboratory environment, ideally to GxP regulations

+ Be highly reliable, with a strong work ethic, and proven willingness to work independently with minimal direct supervision

+ Have excellent attention to detail

+ Have a good knowledge and understanding of standard IT software packages (e.g. Excel, Outlook and ideally databases)

+ Have excellent communication skills and will enjoy working as part of a team

+ Demonstrate flexibility, open-mindedness, and adaptability to changing priorities

+ Maintain a high level of integrity and respect within our professional work environment.
