We are currently seeking a **Bioinformatics Scientist** to work onsite with the National Institutes of Health in **Bethesda, MD.**



**OVERVIEW.** This is a long-term, open-ended contract position which offers:

**TASKS/SERVICES.** The contractor shall:




+ Process and analyze NextGen sequencing data including DNA Exome-seq and RNA-seq using bioinformatics programs and databases and automated workflow for mutation calling, copy number analysis, mRNA expression, genomic mapping of chimeric virus-cell mRNA and HLA typing.

+ Process, analyze, and interpret transcriptomic data from Single-cell RNA-seq.

+ Analyze and conduct integrated analysis of the Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) data, including mutations, copy number variation, mRNA and miRNA gene expression, and DNA methylation.

+ Develop tools for genomic data analysis, data integration and visualization, including strong working knowledge of IGV, GISTIC and cBioPortal.

+ Perform pathway analysis, functional prediction and analysis of mutation, copy number, epigenetic, and transcriptome data, and integration of datasets.

+ Interpret genomics and genetics data in the context of relevant biological phenotypes.

+ Review manuscripts in the field of genomic study for different applications.

+ Make recommendations to investigators about the appropriate computational tools for testing scientific hypotheses and reaching valid conclusions.

+ Analyze, interpret, report and prepare for publication the results of independent and collaborative research.

+ Contribute to the production of peer-reviewed research papers, oral presentations and posters, and informal discussion of research results, including the generation of well-designed figures and tables for collaborative and independent research.

+ Provide training and mentoring to trainees and colleagues when needed.

+ Prepare analytic pipelines in R and scripting languages (Perl, Python).

+ Prepare datasets for publication and depositing in controlled-access databases such as GEO and dbGaP.





**REQUIREMENTS.** The contractor must have:




+ Ph.D. degree in a related discipline. Three (3) years of specialized experience plus a Master's degree is equivalent to a Ph.D. Five (5) years of specialized experience plus a BA/BS degree is equivalent to a Ph.D.

+ Minimum of three (3) years of hands-on research experience with bioinformatics and the analysis and modeling of large-scale data sets.

+ Strong biological interest, knowledge and background

+ Strong computational, bioinformatics skill

+ Strong communication skills, both oral and written.

+ Excellent analytical, organizational and time management skills.
