We are currently seeking a Biologist – Immunology with experience working with mouse models and clinical samples to support the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, MD.

**TASKS/SERVICES** : The contractor shall:
(1) Independently perform a wide variety of procedures and techniques which may include, but are not limited to: DNA analysis, DNA isolation, DNA purification, DNA sequencing, flow cytometry, gene cloning, protein analysis, RNA isolation, real time RT-PCR, ELISA etc. Must be able to design multi-color flow cytometry assays using available cytometer laser configurations.
(2) Perform PBMC separation from human blood samples, cell culture techniques, cell purification (including human dendritic cells and basophils) and stimulation.
(3) Identify basophils by morphology under microscope.
(4) Perform mouse dissection and preparation of samples for both histologic evaluation and cellular assays, including tissues from the murine gastrointestinal tract (esophagus, small intestine, colon, mesenteric lymph nodes).
(5) Oversee animal activities including mouse colony maintenance, inventory, and experimental procedures, insuring that the management of studies and protocols align with the mission of the Laboratory of Allergic Diseases.
(6) Maintain inventory of stored biological samples.
(7) Calibrate and operate a variety of laboratory instruments used to perform tests, analyses, and other laboratory procedures which may include, but are not limited to: ELISA readers, spectrophotometers, microcentrifuges, autoclaves, etc.
(8) Generate laboratory records to support laboratory research, and independently performing necessary calculations (e.g. serial dilutions, molar concentrations etc.). Writing report(s) of findings, stating methods and procedures, including any modifications employed, specimens and materials involved, and results of experiments.
(9) Interpret, evaluate, and discuss the results of each experiment with the supervisor as part of the planning process for subsequent studies and routinely present these findings in lab meetings.
(10) Prepare various buffers, stock supplies, and other reagents for use in the laboratory, cleaning and autoclaving glassware.
(11) Assist in the analysis and interpretation of data and preparing summaries of laboratory findings to be used in reports and papers to be presented at scientific meetings and/or publication in scientific journals. Actively participating in the preparation of manuscripts, abstracts, and/or posters.
(12) Provide training to students and other laboratory personnel in the use of sophisticated laboratory equipment and in the performance of specialized procedures, techniques, etc. Managing day to day projects and instrument training/coordination of multiple lab personnel.
(13) Communicate with clinical study personnel and collaborating laboratories to coordinate and facilitate research studies.
(14) Perform laboratory upkeep and routine maintenance of equipment. Ordering and maintaining laboratory supplies and equipment including chemicals, biological materials, animals etc. Negotiate supplies and equipment with outside vendors.
(15) Follow proper procedures required for handling biological materials, toxins, recombinant protein materials, acids, biological wastes, etc.
(16) Search scientific literature for new methods and procedures that may be considered for application or modification to selected experiments; daily records of experiments and results in pen in bound laboratory notebooks; making minor modifications or adaptations to established methods, procedures, and/or techniques to solve problems in the work.

**REQUIREMENTS** : The contractor ideally would have:
(1) Master’s degree in biology, microbiology, chemistry, biochemistry, cell biology or other related discipline.
(2) Minimum of three (3) years of related experience, which includes working with mouse models and clinical samples.
(3) Experience in Microsoft Office.
(4) Professional knowledge of the theories, principles, and methods of scientific specialty or subspecialty and related disciplines, such as biology, microbiology, chemistry, molecular biology, cell biology, immunology, virology, genetics, and biochemistry.
(5) Proficiency in laboratory mathematics including, but not limited to, molarity calculations and dilution schemes.
