We're seeking a Biomedical Design & Usability Engineer to support our global client with a Class III Medical Device for the heart. **Responsibilities**


+ Support product management & product engineering team in improving ergonomic, human factors (HF) and usability requirements for next generation versions of the existing product and establishing such requirements for upcoming new product lines

+ Support ethnographic research, usability testing, individual & group interviews

+ Analyze and apply test results to drive human interface design

+ Analyze quantitative and qualitative data to support design decisions and system level risk analyses

+ Contribute to user interface designs by providing heuristic design guidance, ideas, and feedback to project teams

+ Support documentation development & review, including but not limited to risk analyses, user/environment profiles, task analyses, use specifications, and Human Factors Engineering reports to support regulatory filings

+ Support the design, execution, and reporting on usability (human factors) tests at various stages of product development, from early prototypes all the way to formal FDA mandated validation testing

+ Draft uFMEAs; collaborate with Systems Engineering in identifying intended users and use environments, as well as potential use-related hazards; determine product use cases and identify critical user tasks

+ Collaborate with internal & external parties in planning, structuring, and executing formative and summative usability evaluations Reinforce a human centered design approach across the organization

+ Represent the Human Factors function on core teams for small to medium sized projects

+ Verify implementation and documentation compliance with HF and usability-related standards and guidance documents (ANSI/AAMI/ISO 14971, AAMI/ANSI HE75, ANSI/AAMI/IEC 62366, IEC 60601, etc.)


**Qualifications**


+ BS and a minimum of (5) years of related experience, or MS and a minimum of (3) years of related experience

+ 4+ years of experience in R&D of electromechanical medical device

+ 5+ years of industrial experience in Human Factors (HF) engineering, or in combination with systems engineering and/or product engineering as applicable to medical devices. _Years of required experience varies based on the highest level of education completed, and the level of expertise in human factors and usability engineering_

+ Experience in health care, health tech, clinical informatics, or medical device/similarly regulated industry a significant plus

+ Able to apply user-centered design and human factors/usability engineering principles to product research, design and development

+ Able to analyze and synthesize large quantities of information into usable communications

+ Able to prioritize and multi-task in a fast-paced, collaborative work environment

+ Has basic understanding of system design, electrical design, and mechanical design, as well as software integration

+ Able to work with and across various groups and levels of management within the organization, including other engineering groups, marketing, clinical engineering, and regulatory

+ Able to interface with customers in a highly professional manner

+ Has experience supporting formative and summative usability evaluations (structuring, conducting, and reporting on), especially involving class II or III medical devices

+ Experience working with third-party service providers and external certification laboratories a plus

+ Has a working knowledge of medical device design and development processes that conform to standard specifications, including ISO 9000, ISO 13485, IEC 62304, IEC 60601, IEC 62366, and ISO 14971

+ Has strong technical writing skills and excellent verbal and presentation skills
