**Business Analyst - Integration**

Location: Portland, OR

Duration: Contract to Hire

We are currently recruiting for a Business Analyst with System Integration experience to serve as supporting analyst for integration. This is a Mid-Level role. The idea candidate will have experience with system-to-system integration, the customer is willing to teach the EDI portion of the role.

The BA will support the activities and works closely with appropriate stakeholders in the development, implementation and maintenance of on-going enterprise-wide programs with a primary focus on partner integration to support the business in achieving strategic goals while achieving operational excellence.

With supervision from a supervisor or more experienced team member, the Business Analyst performs analysis and makes recommendations in areas that require a moderate level of technical competency. The Business Analyst plays a supporting role in project organization and execution, and participates in the design, vendor evaluation, development, implementation, and management of multiple projects.

Business Knowledge

+ Develops basic business acumen in supply chain concepts with emphasis on wholesale and distribution concepts.

System Requirements Definition

+ Ensures applications meet user requirements by gathering information from users; documenting technical requirements, architecture, and design deliverables; and continuously working with users to negotiate technical solutions against business requirements. Example: users need a new order type to support business needs, document this requirement and identify best practice solution options in cooperation with the business.

+ Conducts interviews and facilitate requirements gathering, process analysis and application design sessions with project stakeholders including internal IT partners, external IT partners (vendors, customers and third parties), and business partners. Example: Solutions or process improvement ideas for managing, preventing, and avoiding EDI issues.

+ Documents analysis of existing business rules, processes, and systems to recommend process and system enhancements to improve business performance and maximize the effectiveness of available technology.

+ Maintains understanding of Johnstones business models, data relationships, and systems interfaces to determine requirements and formulate strategies for new and enhanced functionality.

+ Manages the integration backlog according to department standards; opportunity to set and to influence standards

+ Serves as the liaison and collaborates with internal users, external software providers, and the IT technical staff. Example: Coordinating cross-functional work session to improve EDI automation for existing and for new EDI partners

+ Evaluates potential expansion projects, documenting requirements and design for new releases to support conversions and upgrades to vendor systems.

+ Serves as supporting analyst for integration

Software Development

+ Assists with integration initiatives to meet business requirements by analyzing business needs, testing, debugging and documenting in alignment with department standards and practices.

+ Assists with the documentation related to the EDI roadmap to support strategic growth, including inter-related and data dependent applications, and future business needs.

+ Recommends tools, operating environments, design and development standards, metrics, and technical documentation as required.

+ Assist in implementation of system interoperability, data exchange, and process integration/workflow solutions using middleware and business process automation tools.

User Administration and Support

+ Provides ongoing client support for technical system questions and problems; serves as subject matter expert for designated systems; analyzes and performs second or third level support, coordinating with vendors and other parties as necessary, and tracks to resolution; recommends alternative workarounds for system defects until system solutions can be implemented.

+ Provides on-call support where required in a team-rotation environment

+ Provides technical training, guidance and resource support for end users and department staff.

Quality Assurance

+ Documents test plans and test design specs and test cases to match business requirements. Thoroughly test software to ensure proper operation.

+ Supports testing transactions and processes with new trading partners.

+ Self-Led Project Coordination

+ Communicates risks and proactively recommends risk mitigation strategies to leadership.

+ Shares lessons learned to identify and to implement future department improvements at IT department meetings


Education and/or Experience: Bachelors Degree (B.S.) from a four-year college or university; 3-5 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Job-Specific Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

+ Experience with business partner integration, methods and formats, especially ANSI X12.Knowledge of specifications (850, 855, 856, 810) and ability to determine ANSI related problems/errors (preferred)

+ Strong technical aptitude and ability to research, document and solve complex issues independently (required)

+ Ability to diagnose and solve problems. Uses logic to solve problems with effective solutions; probes all different sources for answers; can see hidden problems; is effective at analysis; looks beyond the obvious and doesn't stop at the face value answers. (required)

+ Ability to initiate recommendations for an idea or position; pursues everything with initiative, energy, drive, and a need to bring efforts to closure. (required)

+ Ability to learn quickly when facing new problems; takes initiative to learn without being asked.; open to change; analyzes both successes and failures for clues to improvement; not afraid to ask questions. (required)

+ Ability to collaborate with business and third part service providers. (required)

+ Skilled in prioritizing multiple tasks and demands. Can orchestrate multiple activities at once to accomplish goals; uses resources effectively and efficiently arranges information and files in effective ways. (required)

+ Flexible in working with multiple stakeholders and working styles. (required)

+ Ability to communicate technical issues to non-technical users. (required)
