We are currently seeking a Cell Biologist with Structural Biology, Cancer Biology, and/or Biophysics expertise to work onsite with the National Institutes of Health in Rockville, MD.

**TASKS.** The contractor shall:




+ Apply advanced knowledge of the concepts, theories, and practices of biophysics and/or structural biology, cell biology and open innovation in developing strategies and approaches for consideration of the complex interactions of biological systems associated with cancer research.

+ Plan, organize, develop, and execute a research program involving various biophysics and/or structural biology, technology development, and cell biology approaches to cancer biology.

+ Manage a scientific grant portfolio for the development of new and emerging scientific areas in cancer systems biology.

+ Oversee and manage the development of technologies and methodologies to elucidate the structure of cancer-related molecules, molecular complexes, cellular and sub-cellular features, and examine the temporal and spatial changes in cells and tissues through the initiation and development of cancer.

+ Independently plan, develop, and select methods and procedures for use in developing technologies and approaches to interrogating cancer systems.

+ Serve as an expert resource to SBMAB, DCB, and the NCI in the area of open innovation strategies including the use of challenge/prize mechanisms, crowdsourcing methods, and sandpits (mentored collaboration building events) to initiate new collaborations, pilot new scientific areas, and investigate new opportunities in cancer research.

+ Evaluate and interpret results for validity and scientific meaning.

+ Lead the conception, writing, submission, and publication of funding opportunities for software and media solutions for cancer biology and biomedical research.

+ Serve as primary scientific contact for applications and respond to investigator queries.

+ Oversee post-review programs and grants stewardship activities for grants.

+ Lead research planning groups in identifying new and emerging areas of scientific and technical opportunity and barriers to research progress and subsequently conceiving and developing funding opportunities.

+ Participate in cooperative efforts to accomplish the goals of the Branch.

+ Recognize and resolve important scientific problems, and keep the supervisor apprised of progress, accomplishments, and new approaches in systems biology, biophysics and/or structural biology, cell mechanics and cell biology related technologies, ex vivo systems, and open innovation methods.

+ Collaborate with other scientific experts within and outside NCI and NIH including colleagues in other agencies and other organizations as needed to coordinate and leverage knowledge, resources, and progress in biophysics and/or structural biology, cell biology, technology development, and open innovation strategies.





**REQUIREMENTS.** The contractor must have:




+ PhD degree in a biomedical research related discipline.

+ Experience and education in Cell Biology, Molecular Biology, or Biochemistry.

+ Experience in Federal Granting mechanisms and management

+ Minimum of two (2) years of related experience.

+ Advanced understanding of biophysics and/or structural biology, cell mechanics, technology development, ex vivo systems development, and open innovation methods

+ Strong communications skills, both oral and written.

+ Excellent organizational and time management skills and attention to detail.
