**DESCRIPTION:**


Our client is a biotechnology company with advanced technologies to precisely target and direct a plants natural gene-editing processes. This approach accelerates natural plant breeding that has been a staple of farming for thousands of years and has resulted in a rapid, versatile, and low-cost way to produce sustainable industrial and agricultural products and improve human health by safely harnessing nature's own genetic diversity.


The company has a worldwide presence, with subsidiaries in Europe and North America and a state-of-the-art research and development center in San Diego. Our client has a pipeline of traits for canola and rice and is developing crop platforms and a pipeline of trait products in other major global crops including soybean, corn, and wheat. The broad applicability of their technologies is highlighted by the companys strain-advancement program, which develops sustainable products in microbial platforms for the food, flavor and fragrance, and personal care markets.


The Cell Biology Group Leader position will lead a team to develop crop specific platforms that are suitable for trait development using gene editing techniques. An Ph.D. degree is preferred with a minimum of 8-12 years of relevant science experience or its equivalent. The successful applicant will have extensive applied working knowledge of scientific principles and strategies in plant tissue culture processes such as cell culture techniques, somatic embryogenesis, shoot regeneration, transformation, and micropropagation.


**ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES:**


+ Leads a team to develop crop specific platforms that are suitable for trait development using gene editing techniques.

+ Must have extensive applied working knowledge of scientific principles and strategies in plant tissue culture processes such as cell culture techniques, somatic embryogenesis, shoot regeneration, transformation, and micropropagation.

+ Applied working knowledge of scientific principles and strategies in plant trait development through gene editing techniques is a plus.

+ Supervisory responsibilities include leading a team of direct and indirect reports setting goals, accountabilities, and team structure to achieve multiple long-term projects.

+ Demonstrates the ability to broadly trouble-shoot projects, deal with unknowns and advocates courses of action.

+ Scouts for new scientific literature and routinely applies knowledge towards R&D, commercial development, and actively contributes to the companys intellectual property portfolio.

+ Demonstrates leadership by being proactive, showing initiative, enabling others, and leading by example.

+ Influences and motivates others at all levels of the organization.

+ Strives to build consensus and achieve commitment within and across teams.

+ Builds teams embracing diversity and fostering an environment of inclusion.

+ Plays a role to initiate, manage, and/or drive collaborations with external partners and other outside interactions using multiple avenues of communication, as well as drives development of new technologies.

+ Commits to providing a safe workplace and take steps to promote safety in the workplace through safety program initiatives.

+ Cultivates the unique culture of the company which has been developed by our Quality Culture (CQC) Committees.


**REQUIREMENTS:**


+ Ph.D. degree is preferred with a minimum of 8-12 years of relevant science experience or its equivalent.

+ Ability to develop and foster scientific excellence by making data-based decisions.

+ Strong leadership including direct and indirect supervision of a group of employees.

+ Demonstrates a high degree of proficiency in influencing, motivating and leading others, as well as problem solving skills and collaboration.

+ Ability to anticipate when change in direction is necessary to achieve objectives and proactive in implementing change.

+ Excellence in organizational management with the ability to coach staff, manage, and develop a high-performance team, as well as conflict resolution and accountability discussions.

+ Strong written and verbal interpersonal communication skills and presentation skills.

+ Ability to write/review/edit both internal and external reports.

+ Ability to work effectively in collaboration with diverse groups of people.

+ Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite of products and tools.
