We are seeking an individual to work as a Certified Clinical Medical Technologist at the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, MD.




This is a long-term contract position which offers:

TASKS/SERVICES. The contractor shall:

(1) Serve as a technologist providing state-of-the-art molecular analyses in the Transfusion Transmitted Viruses Laboratory, Infectious Disease Section, within the Department of Transfusion Medicine (DTM).

(2) Perform accessioning, specimen processing and test performance of moderate to high complexity tests.

(3) Enter requests to order reagents and supplies as well as receive and processes reagents and kits into inventory.

(4) Perform DNA/RNA purification and quantitation, and real-time PCR.

(5) Independently analyze and discuss the interpretation, reliability, and validity of test data; perform data retrieval and entry

(6) Follow the laboratorys established policies and procedures when test systems are not within the laboratorys established acceptable levels of performance.

(7) Identify problems that may adversely affect test performance or reporting of test results; correct problem or notify staff; document all corrective actions taken.

(8) Troubleshoot problems with equipment such as thermocyclers (e.g. GeneAmp PCR System), ABI 7500 Fast Real-Time PCR System, and QIASymphony/QIAgility instruments.

(9) Comply with all aspects of laboratory safety, quality control, quality assurance and quality improvement (QC/QA/QI) policies and procedures.

(10) Document all quality control activities, instrument calibrations and maintenance performed.

(11) Maintain records that demonstrate proficiency testing samples are tested in the same manner as patient specimens.

(12) Attend weekly staff meetings or review minutes of the meeting if unable to attend. Attend in-services and continuing education activities as workload permits to maintain relevant knowledge, skills and abilities.

(13) Ensure compliance with accrediting and inspections agency requirements, participating in activities associated with the laboratory accreditation process.




REQUIREMENTS. The contractor must have:

(1) Masters degree in Biology, Life Sciences or a related discipline. Three (3) years of specialized experience plus a BA/BS degree is equivalent to a Masters degree.

(2) MT/CLS certification (ASCP/NCA, or equivalent).

(3) Minimum of two (2) years of experience with clinical molecular testing.

(4) Experience with quantitative PCR; DNA/RNA purification and quantitation techniques

(5) Knowledge of regulatory guidelines for molecular testing.

(6) Strong knowledge of proper laboratory techniques, disposal methods and safety procedures including proper use of PPE.

(7) Ability to lift 10 30 pounds and excellent hand-eye coordination

(8) Demonstrate competency on training exercises and in retrospective review of data entries by the Lead Technologist: Training, Competency and Continuing Education.
