Kelly Science & Clinical is seeking a Chemical Support Specialist to join their team in San Diego, CA for a leading global provider of mission-critical products and services to customers in the biopharma, healthcare, education and government, and advanced technologies and applied materials industries. **Chemical Support Specialist**

**~2-Month Contract (full-time, W2)**

**Pay Rate: TBD**

**Work Schedule (Shift/Work Hours): Monday Friday, 6:30 AM 3:00 PM**

**PLEASE NOTE:** **End client requires resource to be fully vaccinated or complete weekly testing, however, testing will not be provided or reimbursed by Company or end client:**

Major Job Duties & Responsibilities:

+ Receives and may dispense various chemicals currently 4000+ as requested by global chemistry research staff. This may involve identifying, re-naming and bar-coding prior to placing into inventory.

+ Identifies proper containers to transport, deliver, and potentially ship chemicals and compounds to locations around the world. This may involve weighing and repacking.

+ Daily fulfillment of chemical orders from customers/researchers.

+ Utilizing the inventory management system, dispenses/deliver chemicals from containers to researchers or requester.

+ Prepares orders for shipment.

+ Chemical orders from chemistry personnel are received by stockroom staff and checked for accuracy, registered into inventory database, assigned to the user and returned to the loading dock.

+ Adds enhanced descriptions when registering containers including adding relevant details such as concentration, mixture, etc.

+ Segregates all incoming chemicals and those returned by scientists in the stockroom by hazard class, DOT requirements, etc.

+ Properly stage for disposal all expired and out of date chemicals; evaluate chemicals and mixtures for quality and safety.

+ Keeps record of disposals.

+ Delivers and picks up stockroom orders to/from the labs.

+ Stores sensitive materials in Cold Storage Refrigerator.

+ Maintenance of inventory using customer systems.

+ Maintains the accuracy of the chemical inventory by scanning all bottles in the stockroom and in the labs.

+ Maintain regulatory lists and safety information in applicable systems for all tracked chemicals.

+ Participates in lab cleanouts.

+ May prepares appropriate shipping paperwork for requested chemicals to be delivered via inter-campus or to other global customer locations.

+ Creates and adheres to Standard Operating Procedures SOPs.

+ Perform other duties as assigned.


+ Associates Degree in Science preferred or equivalent experience.

+ 3-5 years equivalent experience in a chemistry laboratory setting.

+ Understanding of chemical structures and compounds management, hazard classification and chemical segregation techniques.

+ Knowledge of VWRs products and services helpful.

+ Training in the following for those locations that require shipping:

+ 49 CFR 172.704 for DOT Hazardous Materials Regulation.

+ 40 Hours OSHA.

+ Emergency Response and Preparedness.

+ 80-hour course in Chemical Segregation and Chemical Science.

Knowledge Skills & Abilities:

+ Conform to all customer requirements for background checks, health and safety issues, security clearances and medical checkups.

+ Excellent time management, communication, and organization skills.

+ May require respirator fitting and regular use of the PPE.

+ Requires use of glove box and fume-hood for dispensing and mixing.

+ Strong communication skills.

+ Excellent Customer Service Skills; display a professional can-do attitude.

+ Perform duties with the highest regard for safety and quality.

+ Ability to understand and follow site protocols, policies and procedures.

+ Must be flexible, forward-thinking, motivated, and have the ability to act independently.

+ Must be able to lift up to 50lbs minimum.

+ Computer skills including Microsoft Office with proficiency in Word and Excel, as well as knowledge of various chemical/container tracking systems such as SciQuest, CISPRO, etc.

+ Ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.

+ Good problem-solving skills.

Environmental Working Conditions & Physical Effort:

The work environment characteristics and physical effort described here are representative of those an associate encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Typically works in a laboratory or production environment with adequate lighting and ventilation and a normal range of temperature and noise level. The associate is required to stand and walk for the majority of the working day. The physical requirements of the job are for the associates to talk, hear, bend/stop, squat, crawl, climb height, reach above shoulder height, crouch, kneel, balance, and push/pull. Furthermore, the job requires associates to lift/carry/push or pull up to 50 pounds with or without assistance. Associates use both hands for repetitive actions such as grasping and manipulating as well as both feet for repetitive movement operating foots controls. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
