Kelly Scientific is seeking a direct hire Chemical Operator in Sheboygan Falls, WI.
Shift: 1st shift M-F
Compensation: $50K- $55K/year based on experience/education
The individual will produce and purify air-sensitive chemical compounds to meet the demands and requirements of customers.
Responsibilities:
Perform reactions, purifications, distillations and recrystallizations using reactors, glassware and other equipment such as chillers, heaters and other required equipment and tools. A majority of the chemistry will be run in glassware up to 72-L in volume
Charges solids, liquids or gases to reactors and glassware
Monitor chemical reactions using laboratory equipment
Performs distillations, filtrations, extractions and recrystallizations to isolate and purify product
Dispose of unwanted materials (by-products, residues, wash solvents, etc.) following company supplied procedures
Performs high-purity container cleansing operations
Enter information into lab notebooks, MPRs, logs, checklists and any additional quality-related records following GDP (Good Documentation Practices)
Complete Preventive Maintenance projects (such as pump oil changes, stirrer oil changes, heat transfer fluid changes, etc.)
Perform duties using behavior demonstrating dignity and respect
Verify quality and integrity of material and equipment used before and after every reaction
Identify unsafe conditions and corrects them while notifying the supervisor
Perform in-process analytical testing (GC, mp, TLC, UV-Vis, KF, etc.), including work-ups and simple interpretations as described within a batch record
Identify malfunctions in equipment operation, and with appropriate approval, take the appropriate corrective action
Minimum Qualifications:
HS Diploma or GED equivalent
Glassware laboratory experience (5 years)
Prior air-sensitive laboratory experience (2 years)
Preferred Qualifications:
Associate degree in chemistry or related life science discipline or 1+ year of college chemistry
Mechanical aptitude.
Ability to operate hand pallet truck, ability to operate hand tools, lab equipment, calculator and weighing and measuring devices.
Prior experience assembling, maintaining and monitoring air-sensitive distillations at atmospheric pressure or under dynamic vacuum
Basic understanding of chemical reactions and hazards.
Basic understanding of Microsoft Access, Word, and Excel.
Physical Attributes:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee will sit, stand, walk, reach above the shoulder, stoop, kneel, twist, crouch or crawl for long periods of time. The employee will talk, hear, taste and smell. The employee occasionally will lift and move up to 50 pounds unassisted and push and pull heavy materials to complete assignment. The employee may occasionally lift more poundage with assistance. Specific vision usage of this job includes close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth vision, and adjusting focus. Uses phones, computers, computer monitors and all office/manufacturing equipment. The employee will also type at a computer keyboard and read computer monitors. The employee will wear appropriate personal protective equipment, (goggles, chemical resistant suits, gloves, fire-retardant hoods, lab coats, and safety shoes) and other personal protection equipment "PPE" to protect themselves from toxic or corrosive chemicals in the forms of liquids, solids, or vapors.
