**JOB TITLE**




+ Analytical Science GC Technician






**JOB SUMMARY**




+ A Gas Chromatography (GC) Analytical Technician is responsible for analyzing process samples. This includes knowledge of the instruments and their operation, troubleshooting, method development techniques, data handling techniques and maintenance requirements.






**PRIMARY JOB FUNCTIONS**




+ Maintain lab safety, housekeeping, and security.

+ Understand and operate Mass Spectrometer, Wasson GC application, Agilent Sulfur detector SCD, Agilent GC including Valco liquid and gas sampling systems, split/split-less injection techniques, and cool-on column injection techniques.

+ Prepare liquid calibration standards.

+ Order calibration gas standards.

+ Perform routine calibration of instruments, including statistical analysis for repeatability and accuracy.

+ Maintain DIAMS requirements relating to data generation.

+ Analyze results and utilize Agilent OpenLab software and in-house data systems to store and present the results.

+ Communicate results with internal customers.

+ Perform comprehensive maintenance of GC and GC/MS systems.

+ Troubleshoot, identify, and isolate problems on gas sampling systems, GC, GC/MS, and other analytical equipment.

+ Detailed record keeping.

+ Good skills in safe handling of many types of hydrocarbon samples including liquid auto sampler operation.

+ Assist with training analytical techniques to new technicians.






**JOB REQUIREMENTS**




+ Knowledge in Agilent SCD, GC 6890/7890, GCMS 5973/5975 hardware operation and maintenance, Agilent OpenLab, and Mass Hunter software applications.

+ Knowledge of process instrumentation would be beneficial.

+ Effective oral and written communications, including effective meeting skills. Able to develop, communicate, and implement plans.

+ Must be able to work with minimal supervision while following safe work practices at all the time.

+ Able to work with others in a team environment.






**PREFERRED KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES (KSAs)**




+ A bachelor degree in science is preferable.
