**Kelly Services is actively recruiting for a Chemist for a Direct Hire opportunity in Dallas, TX. Experience with titanium dioxide and plastics is a must.**


SUMMARY

The Chemist is expected to bring a high level of competency to the testing, analysis and evaluation of titanium dioxide, coatings and plastics. An ideal candidate has a high level of understanding within the plastics industry. This position is expected to possess the ability to lead development projects of varying difficulty. The position will work cross-functionally with the Sales, Customer Service, Operations and Research & Development groups in Germany. The position will be required to operate laboratory equipment and adjust equipment used by the Plastics industry.



Most important factors for role:

Assist with technical customer calls either by phone or in-person

Must have an in-depth knowledge in Titanium Dioxide and Plastics chemistry

Bachelor's degree in Science or related field (Chemistry preferred)

5-7 years relevant laboratory experience; coatings, pigments and/or plastics

Knowledge of Plastics, Polyolefin Masterbatch, PVC Compounding, Pigments and Additives


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Perform standard operating procedures in coatings and plastics

Use statistical methodology whenever possible for better accuracy

Document all requests received from Lab Manager as well as, research partners in Leverkusen

Uses experimental design, research analysis and data interpretation to solve minimally complex problems

Demonstrate expert knowledge on instrumentation, substrates, reagents and methods of approach

Adjust standard test methods to fit customer specific procedures or request

Provide written results to Technical Service Lab Manager and/or designee

Provide advance technical guidance in plastic formulations

Maintain a safe and clean work environment and adhere to all safety guidelines

Record and document all samples received in the Technical Service Laboratory

Must be considered a resident expert on at least two areas of technology


ADDITIONAL CONSIDERATIONS

Assist with technical customer calls either by phone or in-person

Disposal and/or quarantine expired raw materials

Overnight travel to customer sites 20%


QUALIFICATIONS & EDUCATION

Must have an in-depth knowledge in Titanium Dioxide and Plastics chemistry

Bachelor's degree in Science or related field (Chemistry preferred)

5-7 years relevant laboratory experience; coatings, pigments and/or plastics

Knowledge of Plastics, Polyolefin Masterbatch, PVC Compounding, Pigments and Additives

Able to work independently

Proficiency in Microsoft Office; Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook is a plus

Green belt or statistical methodology

Certification for testing proficiency is a plus

The position does not require membership in any technical societies

Any certification for testing proficiency is an added bonus

Time Management - The nature of the work requires the individual to be able to handle multiple assignments, working within a team and deliver based on priority.

Attention to Detail - The lab work is not routine. A keen sense of observation and a natural curiosity is necessary.

Creativity and Initiative - The nature of the work requires an individual be open to learning and understanding new lab procedures but also his/her own input. Its important that this position stays current on industry testing trends and new test methods. A self-starting, proactive individual is imperative.

Communication- Be accountable for communicate timely and accurate timelines to project requests. Must have ability to tailor discussion/s to fit needs of the audience.


SPECIAL SKILLS

Mechanically inclined


The employee must regularly lift and /or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. The lab does receive materials in 5-gallon pails or larger at times. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.


While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts and vibration. The employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals and risk of electrical shock. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; high, precarious places and outside weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.


SPECIFIC LEGISLATIVE OR REGULATORY REQUIREMENTS

The workplace is a laboratory. The candidate should have a general knowledge of lab safety with the ability to read and understand Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS), Health Safety & Environmental (HSE) and Hazardous Materials Identification System (HMIS) labels.
