**Chemist/Engineer - Exton, PA**



**Length: 12 months W2**



**Pay rate: $16.00/hour**



The Chemist/Engineer will work in Sartomers 3D Printing R&D group at the Exton, Pa facility. The position will report to the Manager, Technical Service & Development or a Research Scientist.



**Required:**




+ B.S. degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineer, Materials Science or other related field.

+ 2+ years experience in chemical R&D laboratories.

+ Experience with materials characterization OR organic synthesis

+ Commercial laboratory experience strongly preferred.

+ Good interpersonal, organizational and communications skills.



**Demonstrated Competencies:**




+ Experience in UV/EB curing preferred.

+ Demonstrated expertise in generating accurate and reliable data in a timely manner

+ Ability to organize, analyze and present data

+ Demonstrated ability to complete work independently in a team focused environment



Demonstrated ability to engage with multiple levels of organization



Description:




+ Work safely, responsibly and efficiently in a dynamic laboratory setting.

+ Design, prepare, characterize and carry out applications performance testing on new formulations.

+ Support synthesis and characterization of new or modified products.

+ With supervision, plan and carry out multi-step experimental plans, including thorough application of rigorous experimental design methodology.

+ Set up and use a range of analytical and applications testing equipment to collect data and solve problems. Gain understanding and make use of wider Arkema analytical and material testing capabilities.

+ Demonstrates competence in problem solving methods and data collection.




+ Function as active and effective member of multiple project teams.



Key Activities and Responsibiliies



**LABORATORY: (80%)**




+ Familiarity with and participation in development of DOE for growth segment products

+ Understand broader context of specific project responsibilities around technical and commercial objectives, previous experimental efforts, and related tools and technologies within Arkema.

+ Perform routine laboratory testing tasks using analytical techniques such as DSC, DMA, TGA, UV/Vis and FTIR spectrometry, tensile, MVTR etc.

+ Evaluate chemical and physical properties of various formulations and products in the growth area.

+ Formulate products and components under the direction of supervisor.

+ Learns and performs compounding techniques using twin screw extruder, etc.

+ Works in cross functional and cross BU teams to accomplish laboratory milestones.

+ Develop expertise in Sartomer technologies in areas of responsibility.



**PRESENTATION AND REPORTING: (10%)**




+ Organize data for reporting to direct supervisor and functional management. Explain outcomes and make recommendations for improvements or next steps. Present results at work group and project team level, verbally and in writing.

+ Explain project goals and status to business management and other internal customers.

+ Become conversant with overall Sartomer technologies and markets

+ Maintain complete and accurate records of experiments and results.



**SAFETY: (10%)**




+ Compliant with all lab safety policies and procedures to maintain safe work environment.




+ Fully comply with and participate in safety programs.

+ Takes responsibility for personal safety and that of others.

+ Participates in departmental safety initiatives, such as observations and assisting in development of SOPs

+ Operate in compliance with site safety policies, including material handling and waste disposal.



Project work will take place in the corporate R&D facility located in Exton, PA. As with all laboratories a variety of chemical, physical ergonomic and electrical hazards exist. Safe work practices are a must and extensive training is provided to all employees to address hazards. This position may require some local travel to other Arkema sites to share knowledge, technical skill sets and equipment.




+ Supports the site HES policy and complies with all regulatory and internal requirements

+ Participates in HES activities provided by site management and Arkema Inc **.** (e.g., Behavioral Base Safety, SafeStart, etc.)

+ Supports and promotes the reporting of all health, safety, environmental, near-miss, accident or injury incidents
