**Chemist I - Chromatography Manufacturing, San Diego, CA**

**Pay Rate:** $17.09/hr

**Position Type:** Contract position for 6-9 mos.

**Essential Duties and Responsibilities:**


+ Performs the activities associated with the production of Ouchterlony, ELISA and Bioflash antigens in accordance with established procedures. These include grinding calf thymus, extractions, centrifugations, dialysis, column chromatography and Ouchterlony analysis.
+ Performs the activities associated with the production of antibodies and conjugation of antibodies for use in autoimmune diagnostic assays.
+ Performs the activities associated with the cell growth and maintenance of cultures used for manufacturing procedures
+ Participates in the production of other products in accordance with established procedures as requested by supervisor.
+ Performs the preparation and performance of validations for all Chromatography related equipment and processes according to written protocols.
+ Understands the safety, technical, record keeping and Quality Systems Regulations (QSR) aspects of their position.
+ Participates with the evaluation of raw materials, in-process materials and finished reagents associated with autoimmune antigens and other products by performing gel electrophoresis, Ouchterlony, Western blot, ELISA, spectroscopy and related procedures.
+ Maintains documentation for all production activities in accordance with QSRs.
+ Sets-up, operates and cleans equipment used in manufacturing procedures according to appropriate SOPs.
+ Monitors laboratory equipment needs and other supplies required to avoid interruptions in manufacturing schedules. Informs Group Leader or Supervisor of broken or deteriorating equipment.
+ Maintains work area and laboratory in a clean and orderly manner. Performs all events due and Friday clean-up responsibilities in a thorough, timely manner.
+ Follows established safety and environmental procedures. Reports all safety hazards immediately.
+ Other duties may be assigned.
**Job Requirements:**


+ Bachelor's degree (B.A.) or (B.S.) in the biological or related sciences and 0-1 years of applicable laboratory experience. In some instances, exceptions to the years of experience can be made based on management discretion. Relevant work experience may be substituted for a degree.
+ Experience running ELISA and SDS PAGE.
+ Good laboratory skills and knowledge of biological and chemical laboratory procedures.
+ Ability to operate basic laboratory equipment.
+ Chromatography experience is preferred, but not required.
+ Possess an understanding of GMP and regulatory work conditions.
+ Strong team player and positive personality.
+ Must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
