Kelly is hiring an entry level **Chemist** for one of our clients in **Indianapolis, IN.**


+ pay $17/hr

+ Experience with Organic Extractions and Chromatography Instrumentation desired, GC/ECD

+ Hours: 8:15am-4:45pm

+ 4 month contract to start, may extend


**Purpose of Position/Summary:**


Incumbent serves as a junior level chemist in the Chemistry Laboratory. Incumbent performs chemical analyses on various environmental, clinical or food matrices and other materials submitted with minimum supervision. Incumbent assists the supervisor by performing tasks as assigned. Incumbent reports directly to the laboratory supervisor.


**Qualifications**


+ Incumbent shall have at least a bachelors degree in a biological, chemical or physical science from an accredited college or university.


**Essential Duties/** **Responsibilities** **:**


+ Performs chemical and physical analysis on various clinical, environmental or other submitted materials to determine presence and/or level of contaminants or toxic substances using a variety of instruments using management approved procedures;

+ Performs chemical and physical analysis on various food matrices or other submitted materials using instrumentation and management approved procedures for compliance with FDA and USDA regulations and adherence to legal standards of identity;

+ Performs complex chemical analysis on clinical matrices such as blood or urine to determine the level of contaminants or toxic substances using sophisticated instrumentation in compliance with CLIA requirements;

+ Adheres to Quality Assurance guidelines;

+ Maintains proficiency and technical expertise by passing Proficiency Testing (PT) samples;

+ Maintains assigned instrumentation in working order; performs preventative maintenance and repair on laboratory equipment;

+ Completes all required paperwork; maintains instrument logbook, prepares technical reports and updates standard operating procedures (SOPs);

+ Acts as Receiving Agent for the ISDH Chemistry Laboratories if assigned this duty;

+ Maintains a safe and uncluttered work area;

+ Trains and cross trains on other analytical procedures within the laboratory;

+ Meets Testing Personnel Responsibilities according to the 493.1495 Standard within 2 years of hire date;

+ Assists the supervisor by performing related tasks as assigned.

+ Performs chemical and physical analysis on various clinical, food, water, environmental or other submitted materials to determine presence and/or level of contaminants or toxic substances using a variety of instruments using management approved procedures

+ Performs analysis using manual or automated instrumentation that meets CLIA, EPA, FDA and/or USDA regulations

+ Adheres to Quality Assurance guidelines

+ Maintains proficiency and technical expertise by passing Proficiency Testing (PT) samples;

+ Maintains assigned instrumentation in working order; performs preventative maintenance and repair on laboratory equipment

+ Completes all required paperwork; maintains instrument logbook, prepares technical reports and updates standard operating procedures (SOPs)

+ Maintains a safe and uncluttered work area;

+ Trains and cross trains on other analytical procedures within the laboratory;

+ For clinical testing, meets testing personnel responsibilities according to the 493.1495 Standard within 2 years of hire date

+ Participates in methodology studies initiated by the supervisor or senior chemist

+ May appear in court or adjudicatory hearings as expert witness


**Job Requirements:**


+ Ability to communicate effectively with others both within and outside of the laboratory;

+ Broad knowledge of good laboratory practices (GLP) and good automated laboratory practices (GALP);

+ Ability to use computers to operate equipment, for data reduction and quality control and report generation.

+ General knowledge of principles and practices of clinical, analytical, organic, inorganic and radiochemistry.

+ General knowledge of related scientific areas such as physics, and statistics.

+ General technical knowledge of and ability to operate highly complex laboratory equipment.

+ Practical knowledge of laboratory safety.

+ General knowledge of appropriate state and federal laws, rules, regulations, and policies relative to the specialty area.

+ Ability to evaluate procedures and make comparisons of methods

+ Ability to pass an FBI background check;

+ Ability to appear in court as an expert witness;

+ Ability to keep abreast of new developments in the field;

+ Ability to solve analytical problems in related scientific areas.
