Description **Job Description**

The Principal Scientist serves as the technical lead on new product development teams and may be the technical expert on multiple projects. The position provides technical justification for novel concepts and approaches. The position is responsible for initiating, directing and executing scientific research and/or development strategies through the research staff or individual studies.

MAJOR JOB ACCOUNTABILITIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Accountabilities

- Initiating, directing and executing scientific research and/or development strategies through the research staff or individual studies.

- Conduct research on product formulations in the laboratory.

- Analyze formulations for product criteria.

Responsibilities

- Independently plan, direct and execute laboratory research as well as independently adapt or modify experimental methods to achieve technical objectives.

- Critically analyze data and interpret results while maintaining complete and thorough documentation.

- Determine and communicate strategic approach to scientific and development programs.

- Anticipate potential problems and incorporate risk mitigation into planning of programs.

- Provide guidance to Associate Scientists, Scientists and Senior Scientists in their daily experiments and troubleshooting.

- Act as the technical lead and effectively collaborate with other departments (i.e., Technical Services and/or Operations) and across Divisions to coordinate product development and improvement.

- Serve as internal technical expert and outside consultant to clients. May advise senior management on scientific and technical topics.

- Make major contributions to scientific literature and conferences and prepare technical reports, product summaries, protocols, and quantitative analyses.

- Perform fundamental literature and patent searches related to business segment and develop alternative strategies as necessary.

- Maintain high level of professional expertise through familiarity with current scientific literature, competitor products and attending scientific seminars and meetings.

- Use current professional concepts to contribute to the development of Fleet concepts/principles and to achieve objectives in creative and effective ways.

- Comply with all company safety regulations and procedures.

- May be required to perform other related duties as required and/or assigned.
