Description Chemist - This position is located within the Circuit and Industrial Technologies Research Development group based in Marlboro, MA. We are currently looking for a Research and Development Scientist. The candidate will focus on the development and improvement of chemistries and processes in the areas of electronic and industrial eletroplating. SKILLS AND REQUIREMENTS: Demonstrable hands on background and excellent practical laboratory skills. A Bachelors degree in Chemistry or a relevant science/applied science subject Experience with the operation and maintenance of SEMs scanning electron microscopes would be very advantageous Experience with electrochemistry / electrochemical techniques, inorganic chemistry, corrosion science, surface science and/or metallization techniques wet or dry preferable. Good problem solving skills and ability to quickly become competent in an unfamiliar area of work Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are necessary. Excellent time management skills and strong bias for action. Prepared to work extended and unsociable working hours on occasion. Essential duties and responsibilities: Development and testing of new metallization products and processes in the areas of electronic and industrial metallization Support project development of products through experimentation from assessment through to implementation. Evaluate and refine new metallization products via iterative testing and analysis Compliance with environmental health and safety best practices COMPETENCIES REQUIRED FOR POSITION: Experimentation: Demonstrated ability to conduct experiments and evaluations independently and as part of a team while exhibiting a strong commitment to safety at all levels. Attention to detail and procedure as defined by best practices within the metallization group. Participate in team approach to product development by sharing knowledge, ideas, and creativity. Technical: Strong background in problem solving, using multiple methods to identify and characterize product development barriers. Experience with a wide range of analytical techniques such as SEM/EDS, HPLC, GC, AES, wet chemical techniques, and surface analysis methods. Experience in applied electrochemistry is preferred. Previous circuit board manufacturing or industrial experience. Interpersonal skills: Strong team player. Strong attention to detail. Must also be able to work independently with limited supervision. Effectively communicates verbally and in writing to team members and management on all aspects of program activity. Environmental Health and Safety: Maintains a high level of safety awareness and an active voice for improving EHS issues. Strong commitment to core safety values and best practices for safety including review of risk assessments, job safety analyses, standard operating procedures and MSDS.
