We are currently seeking a Clinical Laboratory Scientist with a specialization in Flow Cytometry to work onsite with the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, MD.

**TASKS.** The contractor shall:

+ Accession and process patient material.

+ Account for and accession submitted specimens (e.g., accurate measurement of volume and description of specimen, including description of possible adverse factors such as clotting or hemolysis).

+ Ensure that specimen identification and the integrity of samples are present throughout the process.

+ Perform the following tests, studies or procedures: specimen viability determination, multi-laser flow cytometric immunophenotyping of leukemia and lymphoma, red cell lysis, reagent preparation, instrument quality control, reagent inventory and analysis of data for detection of malignant cells.

+ Make detailed observations; analyze data; interpret results.

+ Perform clinical testing in accordance with CLIA regulations.

+ Develop new assays and validate them according to CAP requirements; apply methods/assays utilizing sound scientific judgment.

+ Prepare multicolor antibody cocktails and perform quality control assessment of cocktail before placing it into service.

+ Review reagent stock and order replacements as necessary.

+ Document control results, identify quality assurance issues, and current problem areas that result in inadequately/improperly stained or acquired specimens.

+ Identify normal and non-normal cellular constituents of specimens and recognize alteration of anti-body staining as a result of procurement and preparation techniques (e.g., low viability, inadequate lysing, error in cocktail prepared, poor compensation, tandem dye breakdown).

+ Maintain and update patient specimen log.

+ Maintain electronic log of the fluorescence/protein ratios for antibody lots.

+ Monitor instrument function and arrange for routine preventative maintenance.

+ Train trainees and employees in the performance of clinical testing.

**REQUIREMENTS.** The contractor must have:

+ Bachelor's degree in a related scientific field (Med Tech preferred).

+ Minimum of two (2) years of experience in processing and analyzing flow cytometry specimens in a clinical flow cytometry laboratory.

+ Experience processing leukemia and lymphoma testing in a flow laboratory.

+ Experience in the flow cytometry field, specifically in red cell lysis, staining with fluorescent antibodies, instrument maintenance, instrument quality control, reagent preparation and flow cytometer operation.

+ Strong communications skills, both oral and written.

+ Excellent analytical, organizational and time management skills.
