We are currently seeking a **Clinical Laboratory Technician** to work onsite with the National Institutes of Health in **Baltimore, MD** .

**TASKS.** The contractor shall:

(1) Independently perform clinical research laboratory procedures needed for the diagnosis and treatment of patient illness from sample receipt through analysis of result, including quality control procedures necessary to ensure the accuracy of each test system, sample processing, storage and inventory; fulfill technical and turnaround time commitments made to clients.

(2) Perform routine analysis and tests on human blood and saliva for DNA/RNA clinical laboratory.

(3) Perform separation of human blood cells; perform isolation of DNA/RNA from human tissues; perform nucleic acid biochemistry, electrophoresis and polymerase chain reaction technology.

(4) Perform calibration, run controls and enter results for various analyzers within the NIA Core Laboratory (e.g., Horiba ABX Micros-60).

(5) Train/ mentor new staff in NIA Core Laboratory and DNA/RNA Lab.

(6) Perform DNA dilution and plating for DNA sample pull request projects to be outsourced.

(7) Participate annually in the DNA/RNA Laboratory proficiency testing for IBBL (Integrated Biobank of Luxembourg).

(8) Work with staff on re-inventory and input data entry for NIA Biorepository (Freezer Farm) sample pull requests.

(9) Organize and prepare freezer maps for DNA/RNA Laboratory.

(10) Substitute, and/or in the absence of Laboratory Technician, perform weekly maintenance and generate maintenance reports for Quanterix SIMOA analyzer.

(11) Coordinate and oversee all Eyewash Station Inspection records for NIA Core Laboratory, DNA/RNA Laboratory and NIA Biorepository (Freezer Farm).

(12) Develop and assist in new assays for clinical application based on requests from clinical investigators; provide technical assistance and/or advice to researchers regarding DNA and RNA testing and/or assays.

(13) Maintain DNA and RNA inventory system and sample storage according to outlined guidelines; ensure that policies and procedures regarding DNA/RNA retrieval and use are followed.

(14) Use/operate a variety of routine and specialized clinical laboratory instruments and equipment in the collection, processing, description and analysis of specimens; perform preventive maintenance; maintain technical acuity requirements.

(15) Recognize and initiate the investigation into problems with clinical laboratory procedures and equipment; maintain documentation in accordance with NIA-ASTRA standard operating procedures and MRI corporate policy.

(16) Ensure that reagents are made correctly and that expired reagents or defective products are replaced to ensure validity of patient results.

(17) Provide input for Standard Operating Procedure Technical manuals within the assigned section of the laboratory.

(18) Ensure the external collection and shipment of samples to the laboratory is communicated to field sites/clients; direct the creation of training packages, flipcharts and laboratory manuals sent to sites to conduct training as needed; ensure that DOT standards for shipment of biological materials is followed, including proper documentation (sign-in and sign-out logs, etc.).

(19) Recognize and assess the clinical significance of each laboratory result; initiate immediate communication with staff regarding significant or abnormal values that may result in the performance of other tests or provide optimal patient care.

(20) Provide technical information and support to internal and external customers; respond to questions regarding analyte stability; serve as a resource for problem resolution.

(21) Adhere to regulations for data input in laboratory information systems, storage and retrieval for information.

(22) Comply with all State, Federal, CAP, CLIA, JCAHJO, Safety, OSHA, U. S. Dept. of Transportation and other government and applicable agency regulation.

(23) Travel to Clinical Research Branch at Harbor Hospital to perform routine maintenance, calibration and quality control of YSI 2300 STAT analyzers.

(24) Maintain the _NOVA_ Biomedical glucometers.

(25) Travel to NIA clinical Research Unit at MedStar Harbor Hospital when a clamp is needed for various clinical protocols.



**REQUIREMENTS.** The contractor must have:

(1) Bachelors degree in Biology, Chemistry or a related discipline.

(2) Minimum of two (2) years of experience in a testing laboratory that includes DNA/RNA isolation and handling clinical samples

(3) Expertise with Microsoft Office Suite (MS Word, Excel, Outlook) and other data management programs.

(4) Strong communications skills, both oral and written.

(5) Excellent analytical, organizational and time management skills.
