Kelly Services is actively recruiting a **Direct Hire Opportunity for a Clinical Laboratory Technician who has experience working with umbilical cord blood** . This opportunity is located in New York, NY.


Shift: M-F, 8a-5p


**Duties for the Clinical Laboratory Technician includes:**


+ Process cord blood, cord tissue, and placental tissue utilizing aseptic technique to appropriately recover donated Umbilical Blood/Cord Blood, and Placenta for storage.

+ Conduct analytical testing for the cord blood product.

+ Perform tissue dissection and qualitative testing for cord tissue and placental tissue.

+ Performs all duties and responsibilities in compliance with the current standard operating procedures (SOP), regulations outlined in the FDA Code of Federal Regulations (21 CFR), American Association of Blood Bank (AABB), and other applicable Federal, State and Local laws.

+ Performs manipulations of products according to laboratory SOPs to achieve predetermined endpoints such as depletion of particular population of cells, volume reduction, and cell recovery.

+ Performs manufacturing process and storage preparation of the cord blood sample as per SOPs.

+ Performs testing to assess product content and safety, including nucleated cell counts, sterility testing, CFU assay, Immunotyping to determine CD34+ cells population and cell viability.

+ Performs maintenance, monitoring, and troubleshooting of equipment.

+ Provides input based on level of knowledge and experience with troubleshooting malfunctioning equipment.

+ Tests, documents, and reports results for products and associate materials following GTP guidelines.

+ Participates in managing all laboratory materials and supplies.

+ Performs state proficiency testing under direct supervision as applicable.

+ Performs and assists in equipment and method qualification/validation activities as needed.

+ Report any non-conformances observed during processing to an immediate supervisor or Laboratory Director.

+ Investigates Out-of-Specification, aberrant, and/or non-conforming test results.

+ Initiates, investigates, and prepares deviation reports with input.

+ Initiates and implements corrective and preventive actions, as and when applicable.

+ Initiates Change Control request.

+ Review and revise Standard Operating Procedures as needed.

+ Performs human tissue dissection.

+ Ensures the Stem Cell products and reagents inside freezers and refrigerators are kept in a neat, clean and organized manner.

+ Assists with the preparation and the allocating of reagents and media and making sure that only validated and not expired reagents are used during processing.

+ Prepares and documents of shipping test samples to contract laboratories for testing.

+ Reviews files and test results for accuracy and completeness.

+ Review data entry, scanning and archiving laboratory records.

+ Participates in weekend and holidays rotations when necessary.

+ Performs all other duties, at the discretion of management, as assigned.

+ Provides procedural training to Level I technicians.

+ Performs all distribution activities.

+ Performs quality controls practices as defined by SOP's of designated processors and LLSC.

+ Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.

+ All job-related information is handled in strict confidence according to HIPAA.


**Requirements for the Clinical Laboratory Technician:**


Level II:


+ Bachelors Degree, BA or BS in science or in relevant field, such as Medical Technology preferred

+ Minimum 2-5 years of experience in a clinical analytical laboratory and/or cord blood laboratory preferred


Level III:


+ Bachelors Degree (BS) in Medical Technology preferred or a relevant field

+ Minimum 7+ years of experience in a clinical analytical laboratory and/or cord blood laboratory preferred


Additionally, both levels require the following:


+ Medical laboratory technologist license preferred

+ Previous experience in cord blood laboratory work required

+ Must possess the skills and abilities to successfully perform all assigned duties and responsibilities.

+ Must be able to maintain confidentiality

+ Working using aseptic methods

+ Knows how to use pipettes

+ Be able to calibrate instruments and follow laboratory procedures described in SOPs

+ Effectively work independently and in a team environment

+ Strong interpersonal and communication skills

+ Ability to perform calculation manually in order for example to calculate cell recovery

+ Proficient with Computer software such as Microsoft Office.


Minimum Required Training:

Employment as a Cord Blood Laboratory Technician/Technologist Level II is contingent on the ability to be able to document sufficient training and execution of assays and processing effectively within 90 days of start date.

Requirements:

Candidate must be detail oriented, can multi-task, work in a team environment, and have the flexibility to adapt to the company growth as well as its evolving responsibilities.

Physical Requirements:

Ability to lift up to 20 pounds independently (equipment, shipping boxes) and larger weight with assistance.

Long period (up to 8 hours) of time standing with minimal or no interruptions.
