We are currently seeking a **Computer Systems Analyst** to work onsite with the National Institutes of Health in **Research Triangle Park, NC.**

**OVERVIEW.** This is a long-term, open-ended contract position which offers:

**TASKS/SERVICES.** The contractor shall:

+ Support and maintain scientific computer systems including hardware, operating systems, and associated services predominantly on Unix/Linux platforms in a high-performance computing environment.

+ Provide software solutions across diverse scientific applications including large and complex multi-component resources.

+ Provide performance tuning, hardware upgrades, and resource optimization across the full range of scientific high-performance computing architecture.

+ Configure CPU, memory and disk partitions across all scientific architectures.

+ Upgrade and configure scientific systems software; conduct performance reporting to support capacity planning.

+ Examine, test and implement new and emerging software and hardware tools for the analyses of high throughput and other data including versioning updates and archiving.

+ Support and maintain commercial scientific software and freeware relevant to analyses and scientific discovery.

+ Design and maintain software solutions that are, or can be, offered as deliverable components of systems such as Web servers and SQL databases.

+ Design and maintain software solutions that are, or can be, deliverable components ensuring that critical, high-demand applications are available every day, at all times.

+ Provide technical leadership and guidance on Unix and other operating systems across varied architectures that maximize bioinformatics or other scientific resources.

+ Provide support for datacenter environmental needs including direct contact with high-performance computational infrastructure including server, storage, middle layers and others.

+ Prepare reports and offer solutions supporting ongoing needs assessment and strategic planning related to computer systems management and engineering.

+ Draft work products and documents related to training in data analyses and interpretation; generate user-friendly tools and procedures.

+ Configure and add new computational services.

+ Attend group meetings with scientists and diverse technology specialist; present findings to individuals and groups.

**REQUIREMENTS.** The contractor must have:

+ Ph.D. in Bioinformatics, Computer Science, Engineering or a related discipline; three (3) years of specialized experience plus a Master's degree is equivalent to a Ph.D.

+ Minimum of four (4) years of related experience.

+ Demonstrated fluency in Unix operating systems configuration and management, including load balancing and high availability concepts; data integrity, validation and security in both physical and virtual environments supporting specialized scientific utilities.

+ Demonstrated experience supporting varied and complex scientific hardware and applications.

+ Demonstrated fluency working in Windows and Macintosh environment and broad familiarity working in a high-performance computing environment.

+ Demonstrated programming/scripting ability in one or more languages such as Perl/Python/Java/PHP/C++ or equivalent with experience in algorithm or other resource generation.

+ Familiarity working with statistical/mathematical packages such as R/MATLAB or equivalent.

+ Extensive familiarity with scientific databases.

+ Demonstrated verbal and written communications skills supporting teams engaged in large and diverse scientific and computational efforts.

+ Strong communications skills, both oral and written.

+ Excellent analytical, organizational and time management skills.
