**Associate Controller/Controller North Central NJ**

Our valued client located in North Central, NJ is an accredited academic institution founded in the late 1930s. They are currently seeking an experienced Controller/Associate Controller to join their growing team. This role will report directly to the Vice President of Finance and is responsible for developing and supporting the accounting and internal control functions of the institution. Additionally, this role will have several direct reports including a Sr. Accountant, Jr. Accountant and Accounts Payable Clerk.

This role is a direct hire/permanent opportunity, with a salary range of 85-105K dependent upon experience. The hours for this opportunity are 8:30am 4:30pm, and the client also offers a generous benefits package.

**Specific job duties include, but are not limited to:**

+ Supervising Accounting staff in the Finance area to produce maximum efficiency, and compliance, with accounting and internal control procedures.

+ Working with budget managers to prepare and to manage budgets and ensure budgetary controls are implemented.

+ Maintaining a documented system of accounting policies and procedures; implementing a system of controls over accounting transactions to minimize risk.

+ Organizing, maintaining, controlling and archiving formal budget documents. Reviewing departmental budgets periodically and interacting with Vice Presidents, faculty, staff to review financial issues.

+ Supervising staff to produce periodic financial reports; ensuring that the reported results comply with generally accepted accounting principles.

+ Preparing interim financial reports for the Board of Trustees including oversight of Endowment Fund activity, temporarily restricted fund and analysis of general ledger account activity queries, data retrieval and maintenance of financial statements.

+ Providing financial analysis, with emphasis on capital investments, pricing decisions, and contract negotiations.

+ Building and implementing a procurement and contract management process. This includes, ensuring policies and processes are developed, implemented and followed from contract bid to execution stage following established policies. Enterprise wide contract review and management is also expected. IE. managing contracts such as for copiers, etc.

+ Managing University bank accounts and banking relationships including daily cash balance monitoring, line of credit requirements, covenant compliance reporting and Federal funds drawdown responsibilities.

+ Working with external auditors and providing needed information for the annual audit. Managing and coordinating the annual audit process with University auditors including the Uniform Guidance Compliance reporting and assistance with preparation of the annual Form 990. Preparing and assisting with the preparation of annual reports to Federal and State agencies.

+ Ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal government requirements.

+ Providing training and support to department level budget managers.


+ Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or a related field

+ CPA required, Masters preferred

+ Five to seven years of effective experience is required

+ Must be proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word) applications

+ Prefer to have experience working with Jenzabar system

+ Experience in higher education preferred

+ Demonstrated knowledge of accounting principles, Generally Accepted Accounting Principles, and internal controls for the safeguard of assets

+ Demonstrate an ability to supervise, direct and evaluate the work of staff

+ Must be able to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing; define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions

+ Must be able to effectively present information to the President and Board of Directors
