**_Controls Engineer_**
**_Columbia, SC (Relo Provided)_**

**PRIMARY FUNCTION:**
To provide technical expertise on all aspects of plant equipment maintenance and
upgrades. Must become an integral part of the maintenance and engineering teams,
developing improved processes and equipment modifications. Must be capable of
managing multiple projects and assignments with minimal daily supervision.
Applies electrical / electronic theory, principles of electrical circuits, testing
procedures, engineering mathematics, physics, and related knowledge to design,
layout, build, test, and troubleshoot production equipment.
**SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:**
Design, integration and installation of manufacturing
equipment and subsystems used to manufacture fiber optic
cables.
Engineer both electrical and electronic systems required for
installation and operation, including PLC / HMI programming
and troubleshooting.
Thorough knowledge of AC/DC motor and drives, including
troubleshooting
Technical writing for equipment specifications, operating and
installation procedures
Provide technical management of electronic and electrical
drawings, schematics; draws sketches to clarify design details
and functional criteria of electronic units.
Write technical reports and develop charts, graphs, and
schematics to describe and illustrate system operating
characteristics and functionality.
Integration and support of data acquisition for production work
centers
Inspect equipment and designated materials to ascertain
conformance to established specifications.
Assembles circuitry of complete and prototype models according
to engineering instruction, technical manuals, and knowledge of
electronic systems and components and their functions.
Provide input on project management, including set up, start
up, and commissioning of plant manufacturing equipment and
ancillary facilities.
Review, provide input, and manage new equipment purchases
and upgrades. Work with engineering to develop and
implement new equipment / modified equipment within
production area.
Assist and help direct set up of standard test apparatus, test
equipment, and circuitry. Conduct functional, operation,
environmental, and life tests to evaluate performance and
reliability of prototype or production models.
Review and evaluate newly installed equipment to understand
system performance under actual operating conditions.
Develop and maintain vendor relationships for all aspects of
equipment specifications.
Develop and maintain a knowledge of manufacturing processes
and materials as utilized in the fiber optic cable industry.
Undertake special assignments / divisional projects, as required
in conjunction with overall organization objectives.
Track open projects, prepares status reports for management
providing input on % complete on-time, summary of items
outstanding
Maintain a level of professionalism consistent with the job title.
**REQUIREMENTS:**
B.S. Electrical Engineering required.
3 years PLC/HMI Programming and Control Experience required.
Read, write, and comprehend English language (i.e., the language of all plant
directives) for required document control, equipment operation, and
supervisor/peer instructions.
Proven track record in equipment project installation / management.
Willingness to travel periodically
