**Duties**




+ Formulate, research, test, stabilize, troubleshoot, validate specifications.

+ Provide technical leadership on the assigned projects, co-defining required plan to enable proof of concept feasibility for new product / process propositions.

+ Creates technical milestones and defines resource requirement.

+ Collaborates effectively with internal partners across departments including compounding, production, maintenance, QC and external suppliers to ensure comprehensive approach to robust product qualification.

+ Develop batches from scratch; and improve upon and scale up existing batches.

+ Work with current team on improving equipment and capabilities of the experimental lab on site and the quality control procedures performed in it.

+ Lead RCA and action plans to resolve product or process problems.

+ Stay current on developments in the cosmetic field and continue to demonstrate performance improvement.

+ Understanding of consumer insights related to product development, and experience in assessing and developing intellectual property are a plus.

+ Good problem solving and decision-making skills.

+ Display a sense of urgency and initiative with creativity and flexibility.

+ Excel in a fast-paced environment; demonstrated aptitude for navigating ambiguity.

+ Formulating a variety of personal care products, cosmetics and OTC from concept to finished product based on customers requests.

+ Produce formulas to customer, on schedule that fit production requirement.

+ Utilize and follow relevant legal requirements, regulations and product development standards.

+ Determine and perform appropriate cost reductions (raw materials).

+ Scale-up of approved formulations, to include identification of critical process variables.

+ Begin to understand the parameters of production trouble shooting.

+ Set product specifications and write compounding procedures.

+ Supervise and coordinate pilot batches.

+ Provide paperwork for new formula and new raw materials to operations.

+ Provide specifications and other information to QC to receive and test new ingredients and finished goods.

+ Research product formulations and properties and interactions of raw materials.

+ Vendor research for raw materials.

+ Interpret results of laboratory findings and asses risks involved in new products and communicate findings to sales and upper management.

+ Remain up to date and current on trends in the retail market and trends on formulations materials, ingredients, etc.

+ Training and supervising technicians and temporary employees.

+ Working knowledge of FDA regulations and cGMPs



**Knowledge, Skills and Abilities**




+ Sense of urgency and takes initiative with creativity and flexibility.

+ Able to read, analyze, interpret and understand scientific principles

+ Mathematical skills; basic math, algebra and geometry.

+ Able to calculate figures, amounts, proportions, percentages, area, circumference and volume.

+ Knowledge of formulas, equations, graphs.

+ Excellent written/verbal communication skills.

+ Excellent writing/record keeping skills



**Education and Formal Training**

BS in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering




**Experience**

4-6 years of formulating personal care/cosmetic products

Compounding/batching experience preferred
