The purpose of this contingent staff position is critical to the turnaround (TA) team's ability to drive value generation through detailed estimating, accurate forecasting and cost closure.

Responsibilities include assisting the Turnaround Manager (TAM) and Turnaround Services (TAS) team in estimating, analyzing and forecasting costs throughout the life-cycle of the turnaround, and taking independent and appropriate action to resolve cost discrepancies and issues.



+ Bachelors degree or in accounting, business, construction management, project management or finance & 2+ Years of TA, Shutdown, Outage, and/or Project cost control experience will consider 5+ years with lead TA, Shutdown, Outage, and/or Project cost control experience in lieu of degree.

+ Experience in the application of analytical cost and performance management tools

+ Can display analytical and critical thinking in a work environment

+ Strong comprehension and application of mathematics

+ Mastery of PC based tools and strong computer skills are required

+ Advanced skills in Excel are required

+ Strong written and verbal communication skills


+ Knowledge of SAP management systems

+ Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) or International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS)


+ The individual should have working TA, Shutdown, Outage, and/or Project based knowledge of the following software and systems: Excel, Word, and cost related tools.

+ Advanced Excel skills, with experience using pivot tables, lookup formulas and ability to manage large databases preferred.

+ The incumbent should have, or be able to obtain quickly, working knowledge of the following software and systems: The client's in-house cost related tools.

+ Must be able to independently understand and resolve situations by gathering electronic data as well as visual observations.

+ Display strong leadership skills by actively seeking data from individuals/groups that must supply data required to get the job done, and resolve any issues.

+ Experience with maintenance job planning and execution is a plus, but could be obtained on the job.

+ Knowledge of the GTM, GMWP and maintenance roles is desired, but the ability to learn these processes will be key to the success of this role.

+ Good written, verbal and interpersonal skills are attributes of a successful candidate.

+ Good organizational & communication skills.

+ Ability to work in a team environment is a must.

+ Willingness to follow established processes.

+ Close interaction with all roles for long term and on-the-spot problem resolution

Primary Responsibilities:

+ Build estimates for assigned work-list that incorporates all planned scope

+ Tracks costs during the course of the turnaround (Pre, Execution & Post stages)

+ Analyze vendor reporting and cost estimates for variances from established plan

+ Utilize all tools available to provide TA leadership accurate estimates and forecasts for all assigned accounts

+ Work with cost accountant to ensure that all forecasting and accruals are submitted in accordance with company policy

+ Complete other necessary analysis and reporting as requested

+ Accrue all costs in accordance with the client's expense guidelines

+ Provides data to Turnaround Manager for required updates

+ Analyzes cost data and identifies discrepancies; takes appropriate action to resolve

+ Finalize & archive all cost information and assists with generations of financial portion of the closure report

+ Provide monthly / yearly forecasts to TA Manager

+ Must be able to articulate and present cost data, cost trends, etc. to leaders in the business

+ Works with scheduler and planners to validate work inventory and to obtain missing or incomplete data, etc.

+ Sets up cost collection systems within the client's and with outside contractors and vendors

+ Utilizes and maintains cost reports and contingency analysis

+ Ensures accurate reflection of committed/spent funds, scope changes, and add-ons in all cost documents

+ Ensures that TA team members understand the cost tracking work process

+ Working hours are dictated by the needs in the plants, while maintaining the overtime expectations of the group

+ Work with the Gulf Coast Regional Turnaround Cost SMEs to understand and drive consistent tools and work practices
