Kelly Services is currently seeking a Crop Genetics Molecular Biologist for one of our top clients in Morrisville, NC.


**Pay:** $25.hr - $29/hr


**Duration:** 12 months


The Crop Genetics Molecular Biologist will be responsible for executing various molecular and biochemical analyses in the laboratory, as well as, growing & maintaining greenhouse production activities.


**PURPOSE:**


+ Candidate will assist with generation of genotypic data to identify the molecular basis of native traits for their application in cotton and soybean improvement. The Main Objective of this Function Sample processing for production of sequence-based genotyping data for all cotton and soybean molecular breeding projects

+ The selected candidate will work with a small team to apply sequence-based genotyping approaches using state of the art instrumentation.

+ The candidate will be responsible for performing various plate-based molecular biology protocol steps along a high throughput process that turns a plant DNA sample into a DNA sequencing library and then into DNA sequence data.


**RESPONSIBILITIES:**


+ This position supports facility operations & maintenance, GLP study specific operations & maintenance to support the safety assessment of our genetically modified (GM) traits in our seed products.

+ He/she under supervision will collaborate with internal and external partners to meet the agreed expectations and to assist in identifying areas of improvement in workflows and will experiment and implement innovative approaches and technologies to create efficient, compliant and quality-driven solutions.

+ Responsible for executing technical laboratory experiments, such as DNA extractions, Protein extractions, PCR Analysis, Enzyme-linked Immunosorbent Assay (ELISA), etc., while following the approved study protocol, applicable methods, standard operating procedures (SOPs), GLP regulations, Safety, Biosafety and Stewardship Guidelines.

+ Work within a group of laboratory scientist that perform DNA sample quantitation, 96 well plate-based enzymatic steps for DNA sequencing library production, and other sample and reagent preparation steps using various liquid handling instruments

+ Responsible for the production of high quality plant material for GLP Studies & Reference Material Productions by setting up pots, irrigation, chemical applications, day-to-day monitoring and cleaning the space (before and after), & providing facility records, while following the approved study protocol, applicable methods, standard operating procedures (SOPs), GLP regulations, Safety, Biosafety and Stewardship Guidelines.

+ Responsible for GH maintenance, such as waste management and disposal, ventilation control, environmental controls and monitoring, irrigation system management, lighting, etc. Also, responsible within laboratories for stocking consumables, buffer preparation, glassware washing, and receiving of chemicals and supplies. Responsible Individual (RI) for greenhouse & laboratory equipment and ensure the associated equipment maintenance is conducted and logbooks are updated in a timely manner.

+ Record and summarize sample preparation steps in a laboratory notebook

+ Work well with others, contribute to team synergy

+ Ensure compliance to Safety and Stewardship programs

+ Optimize and troubleshoot technical issues encountered and capable to identify process improvements and provide innovative solutions for implementation.

+ Responsible for being primary author for process documents (SOPs, etc.) in areas of responsibilities.


Work Relations:


+ Reports to the Crop Genetics Team Leader

+ Works with members of the Crop Genetics Team, Crop Analytics Lab


**JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:**


+ BS in Biology, Horticulture, Agronomy, or related field with minimum of 2 years of relevant experience in a high throughput or research laboratory?

+ Good working knowledge of and experience in the field of molecular biology

+ Creative and flexible thinking while maintaining attention to organizational detail

+ Proficient verbal, written, and presentation skills.

+ Proficient in MS Office Applications.

+ Experience using and troubleshooting liquid handling instruments for processing of 96/384 well sample plates and/or creating next generation sequencing libraries will be a differentiating capability

+ Capable of communicating experimental results, activity status and potential concerns in an effective and timely manner.

+ Demonstrated hands-on experience and knowledge in executing molecular & biochemical analytical experiments, as well as, growing & maintaining plants.

+ Demonstrated creative problem-solving and critical thinking skills.

+ Capable of developing novel yet fit for purpose approaches or solutions.

+ Proven ability to collaborate in a team while completing projects respecting deadlines. Need to be agile and adapt project priorities and deadlines.

+ Will have experience using methodology in analyzing samples, producing plant samples, and generating data.

+ Will have solid experience with instrumentation and conducting activities in compliance with applicable methods, Standard Operating Procedures and Good Laboratory Practices (GLPs) environment.

+ The selected candidate should demonstrate routine troubleshooting capabilities.

+ Capable of wearing respirator.
