Position Summary: The Engineer II Design/Product Application is responsible for developing products for
automotive suspension components, (axle suspension as well as cabin suspension)modifying existing designs
designs according to ZF design guidelines and customer requirements and customer requirements. Directs the
development projects with respect to time quality and costs the development projects with respect to time quality
and cost.
Position Responsibilities:
Perform application design engineering and related analysis as required to support internal and external
customers.
Design suspension products within the ZF guidelines to reach required functional and safety requirements.
Provide contact and technical representation to customers, production plants, and suppliers.
Draw sketches and perform/coordinate mathematical computations to develop product designs and detailed
specifications of components.
Coordinates test and product development engineering activities.
Handle development projects (application design and change projects) as a project leader.
Handle development projects (application design and change projects) as a project leader
Work with customers, suppliers, and internal departments such as sales, purchasing, and quality on design
issues for production and OEM applications (i.e. definition of specifications, release of deviations from
technical side, etc.).
Work with ZF engineering teams (program management, test, plant and resident) and departments within
global R&D.
Direct the release and maintenance of drawings and bills of material (BOMs).
Support System and Design FMEA with engineering quality department.
Define, design, and release modifications to parts and customer-specific parts for existing base chassis.
Participate in continuous improvement programs and provide support to team efforts.
Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, formal training,
reviewing professional publications, establishing and expanding professional networks, and participating in
professional societies.
Ensure departmental compliance with all TS16949 policies and procedures.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Essential Skills and Experience:
B.S. in Engineering (Mechanical preferred)
3-4 years of experience (internship/co-op included)
Working knowledge of technical aspects of applications engineering and product design/development
(specifically within a chassis and/or automotive context)
Proficient with Microsoft Office software
Strong problem solving and analytical skills
Good verbal and written communication skills
Able to work independently manage multiple responsibilities (i.e. self-starter, self-motivated)
Ability/willingness to travel (up to 25%)
Preferred Skills and experience:
Masters Degree in Mechanical Engineering
5+ years of experience as a product engineer or design engineer within a chassis development and/or
manufacturing environment (specifically within automotive industry)
Project Management Skills
Proficient with at least one CAD language (CatiaV5)
Familiar with PDM systems (Enovia)
Experience in Automotive industry
Spanish and/or German Language Skills
