**_DevOps Engineer - Irvine, CA_**

**Department’s purpose**

The FW Build Operations Team provides the infrastructure that builds and archives drive firmware from its development to deployment cycles. We enforce an inter-organizational build process that produces over 20,000 product, process, and backend packages per week. Firmware Development, Validation, and Factory organizations worldwide depend on this process to manufacture and support HDD and Hybrid drive products.

Our 5 member team keeps this process running 24/7 on a system of web applications, databases, and control software hosted on an infrastructure of web, Oracle, build, and storage servers. Over 2,000 users collaborate on this system.

**Job purpose**

We need a software engineer to help us support the 24/7 up time requirements of this system, as well as to implement improvements to the system, such as:

+ Adding capabilities to build FW for new products and backend packages
+ Enhancing build request rules and enforcement of quality checks upstream
+ Improving efficiencies to build more with less human effort, time, and computing resources
**Duties and responsibilities**

+ Learn the process to build FW artifacts – product, process, and backend packages
+ Understand the inter-organizational flow and life cycle for these artifacts
+ Negotiate and design build procedure updates with engineering, validation, and factory teams
+ Maintain and implement software tools that automate and manage the build processes
+ Integrate SW tool, web app, and database solutions by collaborating with other Tools teams and the IT team
+ Design metrics, monitoring and warning systems. Analyze data to identify process anomalies. Make efficiency improvements. Mitigate constraints like computing bandwidth and storage capacity
+ Isolate system issues to the web, SW tool, interfaces, network, server, or client level. Coordinate and drive responsible parties to resolve problem
+ Enforce build processes by educating users of procedure and tool changes
+ Support real time user questions that spans the entire process, from bench build procedures, job submission, unknown build failures, to releasing integrated packages to the factory
+ Document and present proposals, designs, and project results to educate management, colleagues, and the user community.

+ BS in Computer Science or Computer Networking
+ Knowledge in DOS, Linux, gnu make, compilers, assembler, linkers, lint, HTTP, C, Python, Java, Regex, database queries, server and PC configuration, and network components
+ Ability to independently debug complex problems.
+ Ability to collaborate in teams to integrate and roll out interdependent tools. Act locally and think globally about the entire process when making changes
+ Excellent communication skills. Patience to support users with varying levels of expertise
+ Experience in code compile, static code analysis, unit tests, configuration management, version control, continuous integration, and statistical analysis are pluses
