**Kelly Scientific** is seeking a **CCS Supervisor/Manager** for a direct hire (perm) opportunity located **in** **Bar Harbor, Maine** . The CCS Supervisor/Manager is responsible for the day-to-day operation of the Clinical Chemistry Service, organizationally located within Histopathology Sciences of Scientific Services. This includes supervision of staff in CCS, workflow oversight, service delivery, curation of data and ensuring execution of and adherence to established SOPs and QA standards.


The CCS Supervisor/Manager reports to the Senior Manager of Histopathology Sciences. This individual works with minimal supervision. The CCS Supervisor/Manager has daily contact with faculty and research staff, multiple Services within Scientific Services as well as Project Managers and Directors. This position is critical to the success of many programs.


**KEY RESPONSIBILITIES & ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS**


+ Sample Management Sample accessioning, sample assessment for quality, database management and sample tracking. Ensure QA/QC of all services and products in sample analysis as well as sample storage and inventory. Ensure adherence to SOPs. Maintain samples in required climate-controlled conditions; includes room temperature (RT), 4 deg. C,-4 deg. C, -80 deg. C. and LN2 storage.


+ Equipment Management Oversee instrument operation and maintenance. Maintain equipment regularly, including daily validation and QC tests. Schedule regular preventative maintenance service calls and arrange for emergency service calls as needed.


+ Supplies Management Ensure all necessary kits, reagents and other materials are on-hand and maintained in required climate-controlled conditions. This includes materials maintained at room temperature, 4 deg. C, -4 deg. C, -80 deg. C and LN2 storage. Set up necessary supply-chains as needed for direct and quick access to supplies.


+ Personnel Management - Provide staff with on-site training or arrange for off-site training with manufacturers as required. Establish work schedules and supervise staff. Evaluate performance and provide opportunities for professional development. Ensure staff maintain training and job-related certifications.

+ Service Delivery:


1. Carry out chemical, hematological and hormone analyses using CCS equipment. Perform all aspects of sample inventory including collection assistance, inventory control, sample storage maintenance.


2. Provide consultation services; develop and implement protocols for supporting user needs.


3. Establish QA standards for sample analysis, sample storage and inventory services. Import, develop, validate, and commission new methods and new instrumentation.


4. Provide results; support data interpretation as needed. Consult with Clinical Veterinarians and Pathologists as needed.


+ Administration: The CCS Supervisor is responsible for the administrative oversight of CCS. This includes:


1. Financial Administration Prepare annual operating budget and operate service within budget. Meet with Financial Analyst to develop new pricing as needed. Track and bill activities monthly. Prepare capital budget; update and review Five Year Capital plan annually. Evaluate and purchase capital equipment. Coordinate and oversee renovation plans with Facilities and Engineers.


2. Personnel - Work actively with HR to advertise, interview and hire FTEs as needed. Provide and document orientation and training.


3. Documents and Reports Prepare reports as required. Contribute to research grants and other publications as needed. Prepare SOPs, Job Descriptions (JDs), and other documents as needed. Ensure timely entry of data into databases. Conduct and submit performance reviews.


4. Communication: Communicate with users regularly regarding service updates, changes and other relevant information-using phone, email, virtual meetings, in-person meetings and other formats as appropriate. Maintain and update CCS website regularly.


+ Professional Development: Maintain professional currency through attendance at workshops, seminars, conferences, and other continuing education classes. Use these skills to provide guidance or training to others (research staff, service staff). The CCS Supervisor may be asked to organize workshops or teleconferences and participate in courses and conferences. Perform other duties as needed.


**QUALIFICATIONS**


+ Bachelors Degree in Chemistry, Biology, Medical Technology, Clinical Laboratory Science, or related degree is required.


+ Knowledge of clinical chemistry, hematology, hemostasis, and biochemistry acquired through MT (AMT), MLT(AMT) and/or QBRS (ISBER/ASCP) Certification required.


+ Five or more years of clinical and/or research laboratory experience required.


+ Minimum two years laboratory management experience.


+ Two or more years of experience working in a biorepository/biobank.


+ Knowledge of murine biochemistry acquired through a minimum of 3-5 years of experience working with mouse samples is preferred.


+ Basic knowledge of mouse genetics and biology is required. AALAS certification (ALAT, LAT or RLATG) is not required but encouraged.


+ Knowledge of validation and correlation statistics is required.


+ Knowledge of leadership skills and techniques with proven record of successful leadership in a technical environment.


+ Demonstrated ability to motivate and lead others toward the accomplishment of individual and shared objectives including experience in planning, prioritizing, scheduling, executing, and delivering results.


+ Demonstrated success in supervising, mentoring, developing, and training staff.


+ The CCS Supervisor serves as role model within the group and inspires staff to learn new skills and achieve/maintain professional certifications.


+ Exceptional organizational and project management skills, including the ability to plan, schedule, and successfully carry out multiple projects simultaneously to successful conclusion with minimal supervision.


+ The CCS Supervisor serves a liaison between various departments to create cross-functional work-flow teams that deliver results for institutional goals.


+ Excellent verbal and written communication skills are critical in this position. The ability to communicate effectively with others verbally and in writing, to exchange information specifically clearly and effectively when dealing with scientists and colleagues in the development of protocols and interpretation of data is essential.


+ Skills in consistent practice and established operation and maintenance of analysis equipment (chemical and hematology analyzers, MSD analyzer, etc.). Must be able to maintain and trouble-shoot required laboratory equipment.


+ Ability to train staff in the use of hematology and chemical analyzers as well as other instrumentation within the facility.


+ Ability to train staff in data analysis.


+ Current computer skills including use of spreadsheet, word processing, e-mail, and internet tools.


+ Must be able to capture detail required to maintain usage and performance records in databases and monitor workflow using these tools.


+ Ability to use LIMS for analyzing and delivering results.


+ Develop and/or communicate electronic/computer needs.


+ Knowledge of safety protocols needed to supervise staff to ensure adherence to analytical SOPs.


+ Knowledge of Federal and State Safety regulations as well as other best practices (i.e., GLP, CLIA) to ensure appropriate work practices, reducing waste and minimizing risk to staff.


+ Ability to anticipate needs of customers and supply needed services and materials in such a way as to maximize the efficiency and productivity of users and CCS functions.


+ Ability to function effectively in a team environment.


+ Ability to work with frequent changes in schedules and priorities. Excellent time management skills are essential.


+ Ability to train staff in data analysis.


+ Current computer skills including use of spreadsheet, word processing, e-mail, and internet tools.
