The Director, Clinical Trials – Data Analytics, will work with a cross-functional team of business leaders, data scientists, analysts, IT, and external partners to develop a new service offering in support of Clinical Trials Patient Recruitment (CTPR). S/He will responsible for developing analytical, data-driven reports identifying linkage of diagnostic testing information to clinical trial patient population profiles. S/He will serve as the interface between Quest’s data scientists and external clients in organizing and presenting the data and assist in developing a strategy for Clinical Trail Patient Recruitment. The position reports directly to Bernadette Tosti, Executive Director, Clinical Trials/Information Ventures; location for the position is flexible within the U.S.

Key Accountabilities include:

  • Build, maintain, and summarize predictive models that impact the overall approach and effectiveness of CT efforts.
  • In collaboration with development and program team, translate complex data models into actionable insight that support CTPR engagement opportunities.
  • Use strong quantitative and analytic abilities to integrate and analyze large data sets.
  • Leverage the sponsor’s patient profile (demographics and other factors) to assess Quest’s datasets and network to develop patient outreach proposals as well as approaches to drive participation in trials.
  • Work with de-identified data to develop cohort profiles.
  • Work with partners (i.e. Symphony) to leverage algorithms and determine data elements that yield the optimum patient match for the CTPR engagement. Determine critical profile elements that are contained within the Quest data sets to be fully leveraged.
  • In partnership with the engagement team, systematize the process to ensure success when operationalized to scale. Contribute to the execution plan to recruit patients and produce patient lists.
  • Leverage data mining, clustering, and pattern recognition techniques to determine the data elements most deterministic of a match for the CTPR profile.
  • Build an analytics platform to enable the sponsor to assess potential impact to patient reach through leveraging data elements in/out of profile.
  • Capture data associated with opt-in/opt-out patient profiles.
  • Leverage insights for future approaches to build out algorithms and improve effectiveness of patient outreach.
  • Conduct work activities in compliance with all Quest Diagnostics internal requirements and with all applicable regulatory requirements.
  • Write reports and develop presentation materials communicating complex research methodologies and findings to technical and non-technical audiences.



The successful candidate will have the following attributes and/or experiences:


  • Ph.D. or M.S. in Statistics, Biostatistics, Mathematics, Operations Research, Industrial Engineering, or related field
  • 5 - 8 years’ experience performing advanced data analysis, preferably data mining, pattern recognition, statistical, and/or mathematical modeling to health-related data
  • Experience with using identified or de-identified data in support of clinical trial design, and/or execution highly desired
  • Experience in a CRO, healthcare data or Pharmaceutical company desired, but not required
  • Demonstrated mastery of statistical and/or mathematical programming languages such as SAS, MATLAB, R, etc.
  • Extensive experience with SQL and relational databases such as Oracle
  • Experience with graphical/GIS and/or data visualization software is preferred, but not required
  • Some travel may be required (up to 25%)
