**Associate Director/Director of Biology**

**Overview** :

Our client transforms waste industrial CO2 into feed and food system ingredients, through industrial biotech and biological innovation. We are advancing a circular economy for feed, food, and water.

As the Director of the Biology team, you will lead the team that is responsible for characterizing organisms, in addition to developing genetic tools and workflows for microbe engineering. This position will report to the Senior VP of Biology.


+ Provide strategic and operational leadership for synthetic biology activities. Lead the developing of molecular and microbiology workflows for DNA assembly, microbe engineering and sequencing

+ Design and guide conduct experiments to troubleshoot and improve workflows

+ Hire and lead a group of Scientists and RAs.

+ Analyze data, document results, develop SOPs and write reports. Communicate and present scientific and technical information within an area of expertise to a cross functional audience.

+ Develop and foster collaborative and inclusive relationships with both internal partners and external stakeholders (collaborators and service providers)

+ Responsible for successful on time on budget execution against these goals

+ Provide scientific insights, troubleshooting guidance to ensure project success

+ Apply a variety of approaches (metabolic engineering, combinatorial designs, random libraries) to improve the chemoautotrophic microbial strains at the core of our product offerings

+ Provide technical direction and ideation towards new capabilities and product development

+ Continuously identify and implement cutting edge technologies to drive cost effective innovation

+ This is an opportunity to contribute to the technical and cultural foundations of this small and growing team

**Requirements** :

+ PhD in molecular biology, biochemistry, bioengineering, or related fields, with at least 8 years of relevant Synthetic Biology and Metabolic Engineering experience OR

+ Master of Science with at least 10 years of relevant industrial experience OR

+ Bachelor of Science with at least 12 years of relevant industrial experience

+ Experience in leading teams of scientists and research associates

+ Expertise in handling, characterizing, developing genetic tools, and engineering non-model microbes including autotrophic bacterial species

+ Experience with a variety of molecular biology techniques for DNA assembly, sequence verification and assays

+ Familiarity with developing, executing, and improving genome engineering workflows

**Preferred Requirements** :

+ Prior experience with gas fermentation and chemoautotrophy is preferred, but not required

+ Familiarity with leveraging lab automation-Tecan, Hamilton, Beckman, or similar

+ Experience using statistics and design-of-experiments based approaches to strengthen experimental design and enable robust data analysis

+ Familiarity with data analysis/software packages for querying databases, experimental design as well as data analysis

+ A general awareness and understanding of basic fermentation processes and analytical chemistry
