**Summary**


The Client is leading the way to Redefine the Cost, Performance, Environmental Impact, and Safety of Space Access. We are on track to offer industry-low pricing with an industry-leading ability to place launch payloads into precise orbit. The Clients patented hybrid rocket engines, developed over the last three years, including over 80-successful static engine tests, are the foundation of development of our Space Launch System which will have a build and integrate launch-ready cycle of less than 30-days, with a weekly launch capability that will be both mobile and global.


The Client is entering its transition phase from research and development to commercial deployment of our Space Launch System. This will include instantiating a strong leadership team experienced in managing growth, leading capitalization, developing the necessary business processes, and managing facilitation for production, from our current pre-revenue state through to a company with an expected market valuation of over $1B, with a first customer launch in 2023.


The Director of Engineering has both a strategic and a technical role inside the company. The strategic aspect includes setting goals for the team, hiring engineers and prioritizing projects. The technical aspect is about getting actively involved in helping to develop new products, identifying requirements, and setting timelines. Experience managing complex tech projects and know how to build products from scratch is a must. Reports to the Chief Operating Officer.

**Essential Duties and Responsibilities**


Plans and directs all aspects of engineering activities (includes both process and development efforts) and continuous improvement efforts for production efficiency within the organization


Oversee launch vehicle and rocket engine development teams and their projects


Utilizes and implements best practice engineering methods by providing expert technical guidance for engineering and quality initiatives


Assesses and manages engineering personnel capabilities for maximum effectiveness. Aligns personnel capabilities with department needs, while training personnel to broaden and specialize skills where required.


Prepare and manage execution of the engineering departments budget


Design strategies for future development projects based on the companys overall objectives and resources


Coordinate with external stakeholders for new integrations and tools


Provides technical expertise and guidance to senior management


Performs other duties as assigned


**Qualifications**


MSci in Aerospace Engineering or another relevant engineering discipline.


8+ years relevant experience with launch vehicle research, development, or design preferred


PhD in Aerospace Engineering or another relevant field can substitute for 4+ years experience


Excellent organization and analytical skills along with demonstrating a strong work ethic and superior technical abilities


Detailed understanding of the component subsystems of a space launch vehicle including propulsion, guidance navigation & control, structures, power, and grounds systems


Demonstrated leadership abilities and experience mentoring other engineers


Willingness to work flexible hours as necessary


US Person as defined in 22 CRF Part 120.15 (U.S. citizens, lawful permanent residents, refugees and those given asylum in the United States, and temporary residents granted amnesty) since work includes ITAR controlled technical data


**Preferred Skills and Education**


Extensive experience in the entire launch vehicle design cycle including trade studies, design and analysis, production, assembly, test support and data review


Demonstrated experience managing multiple simultaneous development and testing programs


Experience with clean/minimal pad launch operations and ground systems a plus


Detailed understanding of Siemens NX, CAD, or similar modeling software


Experience with Siemens Team Center or other technical PLM software
